Guest leon1
Looking at importing a supra from^Ireland. The cars over 10 years old has anyone done it what is the process? Its turning out to be quite a ball ache! . The Gov web site doesn't say much on the subject of importing cars older than 10 years old. Will i be able to drive it in the UK on Irish plates?? What about tax for when off the ferry to get the car home? thanks
pedrosixfour
I hope he doesn't mind me involving him in this situation but I believe JamieP was one of the more recent members to import a car from the Republic. Perhaps if you send him a nicely worded PM explaining your problems he might be able to give you a few tips and set you on the correct path. If all else fails buy the car, ship it over, litter the interior with empty holy water bottles and maybe a few sods of turf. Then if you get stopped put on a crap Oirish accent** and tell the nice police man "Shur I'm only over fur de week ta see me cuzinds". **The easiest method of achieving this is just to pretend you've suffered a minor stroke recently. Irish_Al
I imported a car from the UK into Ireland and it was pretty straight forward. Because the car was taken out of the country, The owner gave me the V5 cert and I just went straight to the VRT office and put it on Irish plates. I would assume it would be similar in reverse. You buy the car in Ireland and keep the VLC (Vehicle License cert), Ring insurance company and transfer insurance (I did it using chassie number) and then go to local tax office and put it on english plates. If your stopped, You have only purchased the car so I'm sure they will give you a few days to change it over to uk plates
Guigsy
id assume its the same as from NI, when i got our legnum from NI i just drove it over and then i had to register it. popped down the DVLA and they gave me a new reg document. i could choose if i wanted to keep the plate or get a new one so i kept the NI plate as it looks like a private and its easy to remember. OJZ 6979 if in doubt call the dvla or pop down your local office. they are usualy prety helpfull over the phone... which is unusual for a government agency
supramkivcork
It won't be the same as N.I mate plus it won't be any advantage to leave it on Republic plates as your tax will cost 365 euro every 3 months lol. I think there's a nominal re-registration fee of about 50 or 60 quid alright , small price to pay. We would be paying 1000-1500 on average to register a supra from the uk onto republic plates.
