I apply for loads of daytime jobs fed up with working every weekend night, but very seldom get an interview can anyone shed any light on the best way to apply for a job via email inc my CV?

This is the covering letter I am about to use on an application,

Dear xxxx xxxxxx,

I would like to apply for the Maintenance Handy person vacancy,

I am a CSCS registered carpenter CSCS reg number xxxxxxxx I also hold a CSCS health and safety card,

My current position as a maintenance man involves most maintenance duties to keep a large public house running, which is when and if needed so I am looking for a more permanent position,

Please find my CV below

Am I missing anything ???

I found when job hunting that if you can make an appointment to speak to a recruitment agent face to face you will get much better results rather then just applying over email. They seem to count you more as an actual person than just another applicant via email.

Are you applying to agencies or direct to companies?

direct to the company via jobseekers site
