Excessive body roll

I'm getting a lot of body roll during 'spirited' driving with my TT Auto, and especially when I attempted an event in the Toyota Sprint Series a couple of months ago.

 

Where should I be looking to try and reduce this? Could it be tired dampers, soft springs, soft ARB? Any way of telling without reducing the lot?

Have you had a chance to get under and have good look? I've heard cases where the ARB's broken completely under the brackets.

 

I can't say I've noticed anything broken, but I haven't specifically looked for any damage to either ARB (not that I will if it's under the brackets).

 

What springs are on it? Even better do you know what rate they are? What ARB's? Got a photo of it showing stationary ride heights from the side? To make it work properly round the cones will make it horrible on the road...

 

Springs are an unknown, I can only presume stock. It has stock Toyota Bilstein dampers and the car isn't low at all.

 

It's not dead on the side, reasonably close though - any good?

I'm not particularly interested in making it work properly around cones but it does seem to roll excessively even on the road, my Aerotop with KYB's and stock springs was nothing like this (the Aero also felt an awful lot better on track, which was nice).

Dampers only affect transient body roll, once it has taken a set roll is controlled by roll centre height, spring rates and anti roll bar rates. So you need stiffer springs, with matching damper rates, and stiffer ARB's. You probably won't satisfactorily achieve body control without doing all 3, dampers, springs and ARB's. How far you go is down to how compromised as a road car you will accept it. With 1000 lbs ins + front springs, dampers valved to control them, and a huge front ARB it will feel like it has NO suspension on the road. Then the suspension bushes will be too compliant...

The springs are RS*R's softest, bought from MVP. I think they were called Ti or Ti-2000 or something. I wanted the car to be comfortable, and specifically went for the softest springs I could find on MVP's website at the time. Looking good BTW, except for the stickers of course :)

That might explain it, with the 17s it's probably just too soft now (What stickers?).

It's fabulous in lots of ways and frustrating in others. For me it needs softer/more compliant suspension ironically enough, and less slop in the drivetrain too. The torque and power spread is just marvellous though :)

I tried to find messages from MVP and posts on here to recall what the springs were, and from reading my previous posts on here I think actually the RS*R springs were on my UK spec car, and I might never have changed the springs on the facelift car. There's a post from me on here saying how I liked the comfort of the stock Jap suspension vs the soft RS*R's that I had on the other car, so, ummm, yeah sorry for the confusion ;)

Lee and I fitted German Bilstein's with stock TT springs while I was down at SRD yesterday, the car feels much better. The ridiculous body roll is near enough gone and the car feels that much more settled.

 

The Toyota Bilsteins that came off looked a little worse for wear, though there were no signs of any leaks.
