Lude
car has started making the squeeling noise, not loud, but its there, ive been under the car, and it seems to be coming fromt the power steering pump. (its not a pump whine noise) its the aux belt sound, when you rev higher, the squeel noise becomes more freequent. sounds like a mouse squeek rather than a costant sqeel. can i just put WD40 on the belt & the PAS pulley? or will something need replacing. PS the aux belt is only a few months old, and car doesnt run the tensioner arm (shorter belt as removed the air con) any advice?
stevie_b
My car does this a bit. I reckon the cause of mine is the bearings in the power steering pulley wheel, but haven't been able to diagnose it properly yet. Either one of the bearings or the aux belt would cause the squeak to get faster as the engine revs faster, so I don't think that eliminates anything. I wouldn't put WD40 on the pulley: I've heard it's not good for moving parts. It's a water-dispersant rather than a lubricating oil IIRC. Try a light lube perhaps. robby246
does it carry on making the noise when the cars warm?
David P
If you're not running the tensioner arm, that's the problem. Edited July 12, 2011 by David P (see edit history)

seba
I had this same problem half a year ago. I just took the aux belt of and put it back on and the noise was gone. Many people said that's not solving the problem but we are a half year later and the noise is still gone. Worth a try
Lude
i think it still squeeks when its warm yes. there are people running the shorter belt without the tensioner arm? mine has been fine for months & months now only last week its started

Paul Whiffin
there are others running with no tensioner tho? I haven't used mine for about 11 years, extremely hard use and never had a problem. Sounds like it could be the fanbelt tensioner pulley, try disconnecting the fanbelt and spin the pulley to see if the bearing sounds noisy. Paul Whiffin
How could it possibly be the fan belt tensioner pulley if he is not using one? It would be a bit hard not to use one. You must be thinking of something else.

stevie_b
What confused me and I think David2009 are these statements: PS the aux belt is only a few months old, and car doesnt run the tensioner arm (shorter belt as removed the air con) then Sounds like it could be the fanbelt tensioner pulley

If Lude runs his car with no tensioner, he can't spin the tensioner pulley to see if it squeaks. I think someone's talking at cross-purposes here, could even be me. David P
Lude is either talking gibberish or is running a Lude icrus belt arrangement. Post up pic so we can see which one it is?
Chris Wilson
Lude icrus belt arrangement:lol: Look who's talking It is an odd thread, no way the belt won't slip or come off altogether with no means of tensioning it. I think people are getting a bit confused here.
Paul Whiffin
He has removed his aircon pump along with the tensioner arm and damper. Fanbelt tensioner/pulley is a different part, the one I put in my link earlier. The tensioner arm bolts to the tensioner.
Chris Wilson
No, I am pretty sure he's removed his air con pump, fitted a shorter belt, found the new belt run fouls the tensioner assemblie's damper bracket and damper that only manuals have, and he has removed the damper and the bracket(s) that it bolts to.? The tensioner arm itself, and the tensioner pulley remain?
Lude
i have removed the air con pump. and fit a shorter belt. i still have this part, which is the tensioner/pulley. http://whifbitzperformancetuning.co.uk/toyota-supra-supra-engine-components-toyota-parts-toyota-p-5913.html this is the part i removed, the tensioner arm ( i think thats what its called? or isit the dampner) Edited July 13, 2011 by Lude (see edit history)
David P
Now the Ludeish is unravelled. Try reversing the belt to see if the noise changes or stops, if not, have a good listen to the tensioner pulley bearing which can be replaced for £4.33 and a squib of Loctite.
