Win_XP
Hi, I'm from Bulgaria and I need to find the car owner of an UK registered car, here is the story - the car is sitting for year and a half on the front of my friends property (beach resort in Sunny Beach) and blocks one of the parking spaces. It's an UK citizen's car that was coming for summer holiday here and go off by airplane... so the car is dumped here for almost 1.5 years. I have the number plates, model (Honda Legend) and pics, emailed them to DVLA but no one is contacting me back. Any other ideas how to find the car owner, the car needs to be removed and may be I'm interested to get it, because it will die for another year.... Thanks,
RobUK
Can your local police not contact the UK authorities?

Dnk
If it was on my property i'd have it towed off and put elsewhere
Win_XP
Can your local police not contact the UK authorities? Our local police is.... sh*t, they are nothing but fat, lazy and dumb people (really dumb). I've got an email from DVLA: As the vehicle is out of the United Kingdom, I cannot help you and suggest you contact the Bulgarian authorities for advice. I am sorry I cannot be of more help on this occasion. So, the only option is to get the car towed off.
gavin.starr
they are obvously not bothred about the car. Get it to a garage, strip it and sell for parts, whats left dispose of. Thats what i'd do.
Tyson
you say its been there a year and a half but the owner is till taxing it as it is taxed up to September this year. Also it doesn't have an export marker on it either. Its a 3.2 V6 and is an automatic.
Win_XP
The car is sitting there for almost 1.5 years, the owner was at my friend's hotel on vacation and goes back to the UK by plane. It has Bulgarian and Austrian road tax for 7 days for 2010 , how do you know that it's still taxed in UK?

Multics
Its probably not insured either. I dont know any uk insurance company covering a car abroard for more than x weeks. If it has insurance, its most certainly void. Burn it
al02uk
how do you know that it's still taxed in UK? I don't think it is taxed, its current status is SORN (Statutory Off Road Notice), the expiry date of September 2011 actually relates to the SORN, as you must renew it every year or tax the vehicle. Still, someone is making the effort to declare it off road though, probably to avoid a non-insurance fine. Andy
edge
Cut into small pieces and post it to the dvla in the uk. Maybe 2 to 3 parts per year. Start with the number plates, vin numbers and work your way up.
Abz
Just checked & the car seems to be insured!
AJI
I would take photos of the vehicle and write a letter explaining the situation to the DVLA in the UK and to your local police (for what good it might do). Giving you and them a record of the car's location and that its not yours. Somebody somewhere is obviously using this vehicle for deception. If its been involved in a crime in the UK or elsewhere you don't want the police coming round to you with the assumption that you are the user of the vehicle, or that you yourself are using the car illegally for other purposes. If the car is being regularly SORNd then the registered owner is known to the DVLA and they 'should' do something about it. If after sending the letter you give a reasonable amount of time for a response and nothing happens, then I would write a final letter to your local police that you intend to break the car for parts so that you can turn scrap in to cash.
