markylee
Hi guys, i was driving back from work this morning on the motorway when i started to get a small vibration, it felt similar to the beginnings of a puncture , i was doing about 70 at the time , so i slowed down to fifty and it seemed to stop vibrating , and when i got home their was a strong burning smell, i recognise the smell but i just cant put my finger on it, i have a problem with a sticking caliper on the front offside , but the funny thing is that the smell seemed not to come from that wheel, to be honest it smells more elecrical or like bakelite , but not coming from the engine bay and no smell inside the car,,,,,,, any ideas?????? thanks . ps the smell came from no particular part of the car. GINNO78
From what you describe it seems like a seized caliper
markylee
From what you describe it seems like a seized caliper Yes i hope your right,i just found it strange that their was no smell from that wheel, and i also would of expected the car to pull to the right , but i must admit it does squeal alot at low speeds, the caliper has got a pitted piston, so i have been waiting for the j spec stainless pistons that chris wilson was supposed to be making, but not heard anything on their availability lately. dude
Prob definatly a sticky more than seized caliper, the hotter it gets the more it sticks.
Chris Wilson
Seized caliper or caliper slider if J-Spec calipers, see it all the time. Possibly the disc is now ruined as well, the heat will crack or warp them, needs sorting out or boiled fluid and no proper brakes!

Chris Wilson
Stainless pistons for the J-Spec calipers are being made very shortly, just awaiting some stainless bar stock. I would *guess* I will have them made within 3 weeks.
