BodyBuilding/Weight training ?

time you spend at the gym depends on what your working, hour a day could only properly cover 1 body part, as i understood it. eat something after an hour or so and you could easily do 2 hours to do multiple parts, but then your limited on what you can train the next day. 2 hours everyday would be over training and defect the object.

80kg is a fair amount for someone weighing 12 stone id say.

you could sneak a snack in through the day to keep your protein intake between breakfast, lunch and dinner while your working, but going to the gym in mid afternoon isn't a must. your pain barrier actually increases in the evening, to for weights this is a recommended time to train over afternoon sessions (from what ive read), this obviously depends on how physical your job is.

Skeptical?

So you only goto the gym for an hour a day? I always though it was better to go for a couple of hours?

the other problem is that I couldnt eat like that really when I'm at work and I couldnt goto the gym until after work - so I guess that would affect my diet?

Paul.

I go for 45 Mins dude dont talk to anyone, dont waste time and get in the zone ;) trust me, if you train right, with the right intensity, 45mins to an hour is more than enough + test levels start to drop after an hour and Cortisol rises

You just need to prepare food for on the go :) diet is key my freind

I might try and give the diet a go. Would you still eat the same if you were going to goto the gym at 5pm rather than 12pm?

Bearing in mind my weight, what would you do in the gym every day? How many reps and how much weight?

I havent been in the gym for 2 years now so i'll be back to square one.

Yeah food will be the same but may have to jiggle things about slightly.

If you are just getting back into it, start of very slowly, perhaps monday, wednesday, friday in the gym and full body workouts perhaps 3 sets of 10 for each exercise. Just ease in slowly or you will regret it the next day

burning fat normally means more reps :)

No it doesn't

My little fitness guide says more reps (less sets)= burning fat

Less reps + higher weights= making muscle

I'm confused :(

my book says Muscle + time under tension + Food = good growth

Burning fat = Less Calories + Training + Cardio = Drop in bodyweight(And your BMI will change) And also growth(of some nature)

I'll confuse you more by telling you that it's more about the *rate* of exercise than the *absolute length* in determining how likely you are to achieve beta oxidation ("fat burning"). This is because intramuscular respiration (i.e. the liberation of energy) from fat stores requires oxygen in order to be most efficient - therefore you need to be able to match oxygen intake with oxygen requirements for beta oxidation. The higher the rate of energy demand, the less likely you are to match oxygen intake with oxygen demand, so faster methods including glycolysis are also required. Additionally, the greater the lean muscle component, the greater the beta oxidation even at rest (i.e. more muscle burns more fat, even without exercising) because it is the preferred method of respiration.

However, to muddy the waters even further, high intensity exercise (e.g. high intensity interval training or HIIT) will burn MORE fat overall than purely slow rate oxidative metabolism (even though beta oxidation will burn fat stores almost exclusively) because the total energy production is generated from more sources simultaneously (beta oxidation + glycolysis + ATP cycling etc).

How do you guys manage to eat so much? to get extra calories for bulking i have been having 100g fine oats + 2 scoops protein with milk 3 times a day, i just feel sick if i try and cram anymore food in.

I really want to eat better as my diet isn't the best but i keep seeing good gains so it makes me think if i eat right i will see even better gains.

peanut butter is great for extra cals, olive oil is fantastic, nuts, etc.

Some people will have the ability to eat often and some don't, cardio boosts my food intake, so i do some pre brekkie etc, and it sets me up for the day. if that dont work i sometime have to force it down, if it take ages then so be it

Well i have just worked out (from memory as today was a poor day) i roughly have around 3500 - 4000 calories a day, if i am 17 stone does that sound about right for bulking? thats inc the 3 oat shakes i mentioned.

I think i just end up eating too much junk food, atleast once a day i will have a treat and eat something sugary.

I eat alot of nuts prob 100-200g a day and eat alot of cottage cheese (low fat) i have peanut butter in the cupboard but im not sure what to have it with.
