Oil around a spark plug and misfire?

Evening all, I had my TT6 BPU dyno'd the other week at AFR and it only produced 321bhp as it had a misfire. After a quick chat with John about the probable cause it was suggested it would most likely be the coilpacks as the plugs were only a few months old and the coilpack clips were done at the same time. He kindly let me borrow a spare set of coilpacks and I got round to trying them out yesterday. Thought I'd change them in their pairs so I could figure out which one was at fault.

Did the first two pairs and it still seemed to be there, when taking out the third pair I noticed a little bit of oil on the rubber seal and looking at the spark plug I could see there was oil down there too - not a lot, just a tiny bit but there wasn't any on the others. So I cleaned it up and changed the packs. Any ideas what could have caused this?

Now I'm no expert but I assume the misfire was when there was a slight loss of acceleration as if there was no turbo, which was noticed between 3-4k rpm, and it then seemed to get the power back at 4.5k. I didn't notice this until it was pointed out though as I've not driven a stock TT so wasn't sure how smooth the changeover was between turbos, to my untrained mind it felt like it pulled like a train! I did have an NA though!

I've only taken it out briefly since changing all three packs and the misfire seems to have stopped but I can't be 100% sure! Would it be quite obvious if it was still there? Is there anything else that might have caused it or could explain these symptoms?

The oil leak could be a cam cover seal leaking or if it's one of the front plugs it could be where the oil has leaked while its being topped if near the oil filler.

As Swampy says you really need to take it to someone who knows if it right or not.

Thanks

Paul

Funny you should say that, when I think about it, there was no gasket that I could see when I took the plastic cover off to get to it all, should there be one??

Thanks Paul, it was the plug furthest away so I think it's probably a seal. I'm pretty sure it has stopped misfiring but it could be that placebo effect of having replaced all the coilpacks! I'll see about getting John to have a listen, and if it's all sorted stick it on the dyno to see it's actual power :eyebrows:
