Mot - advice - parts

Hello everyone

I was meaning to check when MOT would expire on the 02/07 I checked it and it ran out the day before! Got the MOT done just today and it passed.

The advisory sheet was as follows

1: Exhaust too loud (This made me laugh so much, had the same system for years never been told that before)

2: Rear tyres need changing (Gonna get sorted)

3: Brake pipes slightly corroded (Guy said he would fit new ones £100 supplied and fitted not sure if he's gonna make them himself?)

4: Rear brake pads need changing soon (Gonna get sorted)

I normally get a few other warnings like number plate, lights facing too low, emission but this guy didn't.

I need to adjust my lights but ill be honest, I know more about cars than the average person but when it comes to technical hands on stuff am not too good solely because I never have attempted to do anything myself but I am in general a quick learner so if I see someone do it once I can do it no probs!

I just wanted to know how do I adjust my lights so they are not facing the ground too much, I have already set it to the maximum lift electronically. What the guys said about the brake pipes is that a good price and is it ok to make your own?

I also needed to ask about under trays as my tray decided to break free after a garage decided not to fit it back on properly, does it make a difference if I have one or not? and the inside front left arch a plastic section is missing, well it actually came off the same time the under tray did but its the section as if your looking forward towards the engine and has some cuts for air flow to the breaks, hopefully

Thank you in advance

1) Find a new MOT centre

3) Which lines are corroded? Some lines are very cheap from Toyota, other not so much. Self made lines always look terrible as they'll just use some non-painted copper lines.

These cars are fine without the engine undertray, I've never had one on any of my supra's. It just creates a little more wind noise at motorway speeds and potentially reduces front down force very slightly (and I mean VERY).

You should really make sure the front spoiler (or spoiler undertray) is in place as that does a lot more to direct aitflow to the rad/IC.

To adjust your lights I think its the middle 8mm bolt (at the bottom of the light), turning this anti-clockwise will lower the headlight beam, clockwise will raise it.

I am assuming that the J spec and UK spec (electronic controls, assuming UK lights) are the same headlight construction as far as adjusting bolts.

Thank you all for replying I almost thought no was going to help hence the :(

The test centre's not that far from my house so my dad dropped it off and I picked it up, The guy just told me and wrote on the advisory sheet, needs new brake pipes as they are slightly corroded but never mentioned which section. I wanted to see if this is a normal quick and cheap way of fixing it something all you guys did but if it looks horrible and you guys don't then I don't see the point. I was thinking of upgrading the brake system but am gonna post a new thread for that.

haha new centre it is then!

I have no under tray full stop! I know you have the front and rear section but they both came off.

Thank you for telling me how to adjust the lights really helps loads considering they point really low, ill go and try it and let you guys know but am sure it will work.

The thread is fine on the headlight bolts so it takes a fair bit of turning to see an adjustment in the headlights. Best to park up in front of a brick wall and mark using tape or something where the beam hits then adjust until its where you want it to be.

The brake / fuel line is a known problem though, there is a sticky thread I think as underneath there is a plastic cover that acts like a £$%$ trap, and the stuff can build up and corrode through.

Edit - here is the sticky link http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?140112-WARNING-15-year-old-brake-line-rotted-through

Its quite a serious risk, and probably one of the main things on the checklist when either servicing or buying the supra. If the lines are corroded, best to get them fixed asap. I think the brake / fuel line in question runs underneath the passenger side / passenger rear wheel - but that thread should have all of the info you need fella.
