Hi Guys,

I have a standard uk spec supra and wanna know how much it will cost for a bpu upgrade? Can anybody recommend a reputable place to get the work done? Also how much BHP will I gain?

Cheers

Jonny

standard they are 326 and you will be looking at getting to around 400/410 so a 75 bhp gain

Cost.... you will need if you have not already

Uprated Fuel Pump

New SMIC or FMIC

Both Decat Pipes

Fuel cut defender

Advisable to add boost and EGT gauges

Cat back (less restrictive exhaust)

Colder grade plugs

Thus cost depends on what components you buy etc

Even though the UK turbos can take 1.4bar, I'm going to leave mine at 1.2. After doing some reading on real world tests, it looks like Ian C (I'm sure it was him) tried runs from one speed to another at 1.2 and 1.4bar and it took 2 seconds longer to get from a certain speed to another at 1.4bar (compared to 1.2) due to the increased temperature of the air.

Just a thought.

Na, Not a brand snob pal, just wanna a professional job. 400bhp would be great!! Spoke to AFR Tuning and was told it would be beneficial to also have a new fuel pump fitted. They sounded like a decent outfit. Is this de-cat job a pain in the ass with swapping the cats on for the mot?

AFR are

I fitted a Nur Spec R cat back exhaust in an hour or so (including removing the old one) then removed the 2nd cat and fitted a 2nd decat and if I'd have been able to get the car up enough, it'd be a half hour job.

Not bad at all for once a year.

Speak with Paul he is the owner of the establishment he can see you right.

Or if you dont mind travelling to AFR I would use SRD speak to Lee p on here he is hot property at the moment building some serious motors and he is a top guy aswell.

The SMIC and FMIC depend on condition, if yours is in reasonable nick there is no need to go to the expense of changing.

All you need is a double decat, FCD, some new plugs, boost gauge and a boost controller to be honest mate. The UK pump & Fuel system is more than capable of handling BPU levels.

I would always recommend a decent exhaust if you don't have one on there already. There are ones on ebay for around £300. They are TRD copies and fit the bill very very nicely.

If you fancied doing it yourself you could save a few bob but it isn't a big job to do just what is required (the bells and whistles can add up).

As most have said, it isnt that difficult to do yourself, mine was done in my garage. It will save some cash if you fancy trying it. Theres loads of info and guides telling you how to install the various bits and bobs. Hardest part was some of the rusted bolts on the old exhaust for me. Oh and a pretty expensive lambda sensor is didn't account for.

My car was BPU from Whifbitz who do kits off the shelf.

With an 18 year old side mount IC it still made 421! So you may be able to save a bundle initially.

As has been mentioned, all the bits and pieces are listed and all very straight forward with the possible exception of FCD and Boost Controller.

You could always get the kit, do what you can, and if not prepared to travel too far I am sure TDi North in Warrington could fit anything you didn't.

Might also want to see if there are any club members who could help with the more complex bits. I would offer but would be about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike!
