Peugeot 207 1.6HDi. Has the service overfilled my engine with oil ?

Hello there,

I have a 2007 Peugeot 206 1.6HDi ( 110hp) that is out of the service period. My dad went to a garage to get the oil changed. Had 4L's of Motul oil with him for the change. I forgot to tell him the capacity is 3.5L ( from what i've read over the internet, can't find official values) and apparently the mechanic didn't know what he was doing either so he put all 4L's of oil. Checking the dipstick now shows the oil well over full line. I'm thinking of getting an oil sucking pump and get some of the oil out.

My question is how bad putting 4L of oil in that engine is ? It's somewhat scary for me knowing i put 4,8L my Supra which is a 3.0L engine ...

Thanks

Oil capacity and engine capacity are two different things, all depends how much the oil capacity is.

Overfilling can be bad, increase in oil pressure, blown seals etc, but sometimes you can get away with it.

having too much oil is as bad as having too little, it can and will wreck an engine. I would not run it at all and drain all the oil out. You can put the oil you drained out back in if its brand new. Put about 3 litres then top up allowing time for all the oil to get to the sump and checking the dipstick after each top up.If the level doesn't change run the engine for about 5 mins then turn off and allow about 15 mins to let the oil return to the sump.

He must be the most retarded mechanic I have ever heard of as an oil change is like one of the easiest and most basic things to do on a car !!!

Cheers guys.

I checked the oil again ( without driving the car in this time) with the car sitting on a straight surface. Initially when i checked the front end of the car was sitting slightly higher then the rear. Now the oil level is just one square below the full line. Seems ok, but 4L went in... Don't know what to think.

Are you sure he put it all in ? Or maybe he has just pocketed the rest for himself ? My bet is he put the right amount in and has kept the rest of the oil to use on other cars.

Dunno mate. My dad said he saw the guy pour everything in, but he could be wrong... The car has traveled a few thousand miles in the last week ( Summer trip) and it seems to be ok. Glad it wasn't the Supra though, i always change the oil myself :)

i put too much oil in once, well the engine had a small leak and i kept topping it up too much. ruined the engine, it was a pug diesel.

was driving along the motorway and soooooooo much white smoke started coming out from exhaust and the car started to red line itself even when i took the key out.!!

car never ran the same again
