ripped_fear
both look good buy's! I have had halfords tools some have lasted and some break quick! you get what you pay for. if you are just using them every so often then probably fine but if you are using them alot them pay the money and get snap on but you will have to be feeling flush

Some breaking within a couple of days. I'd love snap on but won't be used that often to warrant it. Halfords pro stuff gets my vote, lifetime warranty helps Wez do they do a tool chest package ? Can't seem to find one that's over 150 a set?

I would only spend that much if i was a mechanic or just had enough money not to worry:p
Wez
Wez do they do a tool chest package ? Can't seem to find one that's over 150 a set? I dont think so, you can buy the cabinets and then kits of bits to full it up, much like Snap-On I guess. If I needed a good set for working on cars/bikes this would be top of my list, although you have missed the 50% off offer as this was only £99 a few weeks back. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_173083_categoryId_165572_langId_-1?cm_sp=Intelligent_Offer-_-Product_List_Zone_1-_-Blank&iozone=PLPz1 My mate picked one up and we used it to remove, strip and fit a new engine in his Aprillia bike
jonc
Aren't the halftauds tools life time guarantee? I have had two of their socket sets for over 20 years and not cracked anything. My last tool chest was from machine mart. We use the decent Clarke tools at work and they perform well. Of course snap on are the best but not worth the outlay unless you are a mechanic
Scott
The sets you have linked to are useless mate. Unfortunately if you're looking to buy a toolkit that size you are going to have to add on a zero to the end of the figure you're looking to spend. Those things are made of butter and will break, bend and disintegrate on anything other than toy car. I would recommend just getting a few sets of the halfords pro stuff. If you spent £200 there it would be money well spent. Socket set, spanner/ratchet set, screwdriver set would get you started.
Geo
The Pro Kit that Wez linked looks good, suppose i could buy a chest box, and build it up etc. So what are the Top makes of tools then obviously Snap On being the Daddy, for normal hobbyists ?? also found this http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cht548-300pce-home-garage-repair-kit
Geo
having a read of the reviews of http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_173083_langId_-1_categoryId_165572#tab3 and it looks pretty good from what i've been ready. Might pop over and buy one of these, along with a chest.

Scott
Lol, trust me mate you aren't going to get decent tools when you buy them by the kilo. The halfords set you linked to is perfect, it's a little small for kitting out but it will certainly get you started. You don't need to spend good money on hammers and to a certain extent pliers etc (although there is a huge difference depending how surgical you are with them) but when it comes to sockets, spanners and screwdrivers cheap and nasty chrome plated junk just won't cut it. If you go REALLY cheap they won't even be the right sizes.

Suprab1
I use Halfords & Teng tools, i find both them very good. I also use them every day & they are both upto any garage standards. I wouldn't bother with over priced snap on tools.
Scott
By the way, snapon aren't all that King dick is the daddy IMO.
Chris Wilson
I would buy a tool cabinet off Machine Mart, get their Pro range, the lesser ones will disappoint, then buy tools separately, sometimes Ebay is a good source for quality used stuff, or special deals on new. the all in one box / tools packages sound cheap, but you get stuff you don't need, and don't get stuff you DO need
leet45single
The life time warranty on halfrauds tools are useless. I have a spanner/socket set with the life time warranty, I went in the shop after the smallest ratchet broke, the button you push to release the socket came out with the spring etc. They said the warranty doesnt cover moving parts. Geo
Right, So being a really impatient fella, i bought the Harlfords Pro 150 set, Used it today to take off the Burds Exhaust, TBH i liked it alot Test will be using it more often and on tougher projects. The dude did say to me, life time warranty, so if anything breaks i'll be taking it back, if he says sorry nope, then i'll be breaking him. They need the receipt for the warranty, little tip, photocopy it as it'll fade in time due to being on till paper.
