Still no 2nd turbo, TTC mod worked great

Hi all,

Over the past few weeks I have had an intermittant 2nd turbo. Sometimes it would it come in 3800 rpm, other times not until over 5000.

I have tried the TTC mod to check the turbo's by bypassing the IACV and EGCV vsv's by swapping the vac pipes, both turbo's are working fine and hitting 1.2 bar everytime. I purchased a new IACV vsv from Whifbitz hoping this would cure the problem but it hasn't. When I first ran the car the 1st turbo started spooling around 2000 rpm as normal but as soon as I accelerated hard 2nd turbo is still late (over 5000 rpm) and from then on was very loud like it was still in TTC mode. It did make 0.88 bar boost at last try.

What now, do I buy a new EGCV vsv or is it the EGBV vsv which was not bypassed in the TTC mod? I have read Ian C's thread on the sequential mode but still not sure whats causing the problem.

Help please :)

The EGCV will be OK if the 2nd turbo is always coming in. The fault you describe is the EGBV (I think anyway, might have gotten them mixed up). When it doesn't work the 2nd turbo doesn't pre-spool therefor you get a huge lull and the boost comes in around 5k.

It's the very small one on the top pointing upwards IIRC :)

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I have checked the EGCV and EBV vsv's and they are working according to the tests set out in Toyota manual.

As the wastegate vsv is blanked off because I have an EBC, I assume this is not part of the problem.

I will check the vac hoses to the EBV actuator as I have not changed these yet. Other than that I dont know what else apart from the electrical connectors. I can run it in TTC mode but I would like it working correctly and not just mask a problem.

I had the same problem like alot of others on here with the TT's. I thought i would try and fix the problem but when i found out that the valves cos around 200 each if thought f**k that.

If you ask around on here people usually have them lying around in the garage from when people do single conversions. I had the same fault and bought second hand ones but the wrong ones so ive got a few spares now so if any of the others go ive got another one ready to go on.

Just set up a wanted thread im sure someone will have the one your after, and they usall sell for around £20.
