Jdm Apex'i Lcd Universal Turbo Timer

anyone used or fitted this timer?

 

is it easy to fit, does it work well,

 

and perhapse most importantly, could i use it to leave the car running while i pop in the local shop n buy a newspaper then drive off without stopping the engine??? - call me sad but i think i'd like that!:blink:

Not used that particular one. They are extremely easy to fit if you have a wiring harness, I found that the HKS wiring harness was exactly the same fitting as the connection on my turbo timer even though it's not a HKS one.

 

You could leave it running and nip to the shop to buy a paper yes, and also you can set them to a suitably long time, start the engine in a morning then go back inside and finish your cup of coffee while the car defrosts :D Just remember to lock the door with the key when you get out or some theiving toerag might jump in and try to nick it.

Just a cautionary note. (Sorry to sound pedantic, but I've known people this has happened to)

Noting of course you should be on private property.

I do this :)

 

Just remember to lock the door with the key when you get out or some theiving toerag might jump in and try to nick it

 

Finally, any good turbo timer should be hooked into the hand brake signal and thus as soon as said toerag tries to move off the car will stall.

 

Locking the door is still a good idea though, stops them nicking your ice scraper and copy of Barry Manilow.

It's pretty easy, but not part of the wiring harness. There's a wire going to a switch on the handbrake that's used for the handbrake warning light. The timer will have a cable that you just tap into this under the centre console.

 

If you have a facelift car you might find you can't get a wiring harness. I ended up having to wire my Blitz one in myself, which was a bit more of a pain.

bugger, yeah i got facelift,

oh well timer isnt that much of a priority at present anyway, i want RL traction control first, (before i kill myself!:innocent: )

just tempted by a cheap timer on ebay, if antone wants it just do a search with the title of this thread, postage might be a pain coz its from japan, but its only small so shouldnt be too bad.

(i wont be doing it myself thank god, but better ask just so i know, )

oh, n is there no point in buyin one of these harnesses then? im pretty shure i know sum1 clued up enough to be able to wire it anyway!

And what did you use to mount the controlls in your dash???

(looks smart by the way!)

Now he tells me :p . Anyway, that thread just had the wiring for the main ignition wires in. The manual I got had details on the handbrake thingy. I used one of those Halfords CD-holder/cubby hole things, and glued a bit of plastic to the front, cut to fit the hole in the dash surround. I cut a hole in the plastic bit to fit the timer in and stuck a couple of bits of wood to the back that it sits against. Kind of hard to describe. The Blitz one also has a black box hide-away unit that I have mounted in the cubby-hole bit.

 

Anyway I've moved it now to make room for my Apexi RSM. I moved the stock TC buttons to the right-most switch area from the middle one. Then I cut the divider out between the left and middle switch areas and mounted the timer behind there. Again kind of hard to describe. I'll take another photo...
