I think you'll find the fault lies with the previous Labour gov.

David Cameron has admitted, rightly, that our way out of this slump lies with our manufacturing industries and tangible services. It's not his fault the Labour gov. got us tied up so tightly with Europe.

Our trade, commerce and parliamentary alliances should be made with the old empire colonies, such as the US, India, Canada and Australia. We'd be in a much stronger position now if that were the case, all IMO of course. :)

I think you'll find that it was the tory government of Edward Heath that took us into the EU!

In Scotland our state owned ferry company has to get it's ferries from Polish ship yards whilst the Clyde shipyards who previously made them, close one by one. If government really wanted to preserve our heavy industries, they'd have figured it out over the last 30 odd years.

Sadly, the tories don't work in factories, they're too busy feeding at the banker's trough.

Taking us in to Europe with all our veto rights and then having the rules more or less completely re-written under the labour government so that in effect we are more or less a euro-puppy dog are two different things.

The future of Britain needs a strong private industrial sector and less tax payer funded operations that don't make profit or add to the GDP.

But we would all be moaning about wasted money and overpriced contracts if they didn't go to the cheapest supplier, wouldn't we?

Isn't that what the Labour government did, and landed us in this mess?

It could also be said that trade unions (Labours lap dogs) are the reason we have so few factories left. They certainly did a bang up job with our ship building, car manufacturing and primary sector industries :)

I personally think the problem is that we, the UK, play by the rules of Europe as we are meant to do. Sadly the French and Germans 'bend' the rules to suit their businesses and hence beat is every time in a 'fair' game.

You can blame both Labour and the Conservatives. It is a transition period with policies of one party still being followed though to completion by the other (I suspect because they have to).

Has anyone considered the fact that our tender simply wasn't good enough? Some little train company vs Siemans?
