p111ddy
Recently before I sold my supra I declared it off the road as I had to do work on it before it could go. However during this time my insurance expired & unknown to me admiral (insurance company) decided to automatically renew my insurance for another year but as I changed banks also they didn't have my correct details to take payment so it was sent back un-paid. I pay for my insurance upfront so didn't feel the need to tell them as I was moving house at the same time also, so it got put to the back of the 'to do' pile & consequently forgotten about. So now I have a debt recovery company trying to get £155 off me for insurance I never asked or agreed to. They as u can guess are telling me to pay the bill & the contest it. (which I really don't want to do) Or if I can supply them with proof of SORN they will close down the account as no funds required. This leads me to my problem, I don't have the sorn notice anymore as I gave this along with anything else that was supra related to the new owner & the new owner doesn't have said document as its now taxed & on the road. Any suggestions would be appreciated as every time I try to contact the DVLA I can't get though to speak to anyone & keep getting cut off. Thanks, Michael
stevie_b
I would persevere with the DVLA: someone must speak to you or email you eventually.
ManwithSupra
Yeah keep trying the DVLA, they will have a record of it when it was changed to SORN. May be worth popping in to a DVLA office, as your in london one of these must be close to you. Soop Dogg
Didn't they send you a SORN confirmation letter? Did you SORN it online?
Rob
I think the SORN issue is now irrelevant I would check the T&Cs of the Admiral insurance docs, with particular regard for auto-renewal. However, surely Contract Law must come into play here...if you didn't pay for an offered service, and therefore they did not provide you with that service, I fail to see why they are now chasing you for a debt you did not incur. I suspect bullying tactics from the Debt dogs. Maybe tell them to take you to court for non payment of a service you did not request or receive and then threaten them with counter action for harrassment. Westy
Your insurance was only £155!?
probrox
I've just spoken to the Mrs who works for one of the DVLA local offices. She said you need to go to the DVLA website http://www.direct.gov.uk and download a v888 form. Using this form you can get information from DVLA records in writing. It costs about a fiver for the priviledge though. Edit: this link should take you to it http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Diol1/DoItOnline/DG_10016794

Holden1989
Admiral are well known for this, not that that would make any difference
imi
If you paid for your insurance upfront for 12 months then I am not sure why the insurance company believe that they can renew your policy without your consent. i'd just call them up and have a strong word with them, cheeky gits. imi
