AndrewOW
China opens world's longest sea bridge, at 26.3miles, it's quite incredible. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-13976281 By the way the Chinese drive, it could be a very clever way to reduce their population! bigbloodyturbo
it will be just fine, the chinese are far from stupid. They seem to be building these engineering record breakers lately to show off to the rest of the world.
Havard
I am still surprised that the Chinese get labelled with poor manufacturing. Times have moved on but I do appreciate that some of the stuff will be kack but that is why a lot of it is cheap..!!

AndrewOW
There's nothing wrong with their engineering, it's their driving that could end up in the drink!

Lbm
No doubt Top Gear will do a race across, under and above the bridge. There will be a man in a Canoe 'V' a man in a moto-taxi/Rickshaw 'V' a bloke strapped to a giant kite. I'll still watch it though.

Its worth watcing episode 1 of Evan "Tinselt*ts" Davies series Made In Britain, about the growth of Chinese manufacture against our decline. Very interesting and uplifting. Well, the Chinese factory I used to make me an air tight bladder for a new product I'd invented took them a year, and still the blinking thing leaked. So I don't have huge confidence in their abilities at the moment. Lovely people though.

My experience is that they are very good at copying but as they haven't developed the product from scratch then they miss out vital things, in the end resulting in an inferior item. I've yet to see anything decent that they have designed and made from scratch.

hogmaw
What's impressive is that it cost only £37m per mile to build Whereas this cost £138m per mile to build - and it was on land!

Kevin Huntley
Don't think I will be crossing it in a Hurry, there's a reason why the majority of the worlds Oil Rig producers won't accept Chinese or Indian manufactured items and I have seen this first hand.... hodge
I work for a huge supplier of oil and gas parts for oil rigs etc and 1 of out companies in India sent some parts to us to be inspected and they were terrible. All faces had steps in and bores which should have been 32 finishes looked like s ploughed field. They may be cheap but up to our standard of engineering they are not.
