Gazzawu
Hi there Iv left my car at my friend's for a year now and i tried to start it up but obviously wont start up cos battery is flat so tried to push it out into the road. Unfortunately gear wont shift from Park so had to press the red button until I could shift back to Neutral. Released the hand break and two of my m8s tried to push it......no luck..... just rocking movements. Tyres look a bit flat so they can do with more pressure. Can the brakes seize up if the car has been stationery for that long? Any suggestions everyone?
Guigsy
Yeah breaks can sieze. But doesn't pressing the red button just move the shifter without changing gear? I'm not sure I've never had a jspec auto
Pixelfill
Yes definitely can seize. I had the same problem on a Fiesta after only 4 months.

I'm not sure I've never had a jspec auto In this instance it does move you out of park, so you should be able to push the car - unless the brakes have seized. bullet_uk
sounds like the breaks have sieze or you might just need some stronger mates
Swampy442
Seized hand brakes or brakes is very common. You may have to give it some persuasion by trying to tow it.
dwayne
you could try moving the car by turning the wheels by hand using the spokes. thats how i do it and its always worked better than trying to push. failing that just jack it up and free one at a time
Gazzawu
so how do you unseize them?
Thomas.B
Why not simply jumpstart it with another car?
dwayne
by force mate unless you want to strip them, the methods said above will do it.
Wez
Put a decent battery on it, check all fluids, disconnect ignition and turn over to get oil pressure up, reconnect ignition and fire it up and drive it out

Preventative maintainence is generally preferable though.
dive_popo
If i were you I wouldnt try to start an automatic by pushing.... just get a new battery man

This is an excellent way of either loosing a finger or breaking one as they get caught on the caliper behind the spokes and the weight of the car keeps the wheel moving. BE VERY CAREFUL !!!!!! dwayne
wasnt suggesting being stupid enough to put your pinkys though the spokes. i use the palm of my hand and should obviously have been more clear

Hellstrom
Lift the car up, take a hammer and knock on the brakedrum should do it.
Chris Wilson
Just tow it out with another car? The pads will have rusted slightly to the discs, a good jolt on a tow rope will free them.
