Thomas.B
Will do a full service this weekend and just want to check so I have the right amounts. Motor Oil: 5w50 : API SL/CF, ACEA A3/B3 (synthetic) Auto box oil: 75W-90 : API GL-4/5, API MT-1, Scania STO 1:0. 1 l. (synthetic) Diff Oil: Same as Auto-box Will also change sparkplugs, oilfilter and clean the airfilter. Cambelt is changed. Anything else while I'm at it? Coolant will be changed another time. Auto oil, Do I need to buy more then 2 litres?
Dnk
If i were you i'd check the FAQ section as there is a complete breakdown of everything you need to know I dont think i'd be putting diff oil in the autobox, use the Toyota type IV ATF. Thomas.B
I have already checked there and thats why I was wondering if its enough with 2 liters as it says there that it wont take more... The transmission oil is the same for diffs etc, no difference in the two, and it is to the highest test standards as I wrote after the names. I have a shitload of motor oil so no problemo
Dnk
Im not an oil specialist but the Mobil diff oil i use looks, smells, nothing like the recomended Toyota ATF fluid i use, it also looks a differant viscosity so as long as your sure then fine but if not i'd double check this before you put it in the autobox edit I've done some checking and im pretty sure that the oil you mention is ok in diffs and manual gearboxes but not to be used in the autobox. Thomas.B
Oh sorry about that, missed the auto part This for my auto box: Dexron® III, Dexron® IID or Dexron® IIE. Spec: Allison C-4, Caterpillar TO-2, Ford Mercon®, GM Dexron® IIIG, ZF TE-ML 05L/09 (Semisynthetic) So I need to know how much Diff oil I can change? Also the autobox, it says in the faq that I only can change the sump and that is 2litres, should I get three to be sure, or more?
David P
Diff oil - 75-90 - 2 litres will change all with some over. Auto trans Dexron II (not III) and 2 litres is sufficient to replace what will drain from sump.
Scooter
The autobox has 10+ litres in the system I think, but the amount released in one go from the sump bolt is the 2l's stated. I would buy more and do a few changes quickly if you think the fluid in general is old/poor. You could just do one and drive around the block and then do another but the more you do then the more brand new fluid you are draining out each time! Dont think it's bad but for my peace of mind I'll change it. Rather change 2 liters now and then 2 liters before I put it away over the winter. Why isn't Dexron III good? Thought it would be compatable with older versions? My supplier only has Dexron III... what is the difference in the two?
David P
Unless you have burnt the trans fluid it's better to just change the sump full to freshen it up. A complete flush can cause problems. Dexron III is a different (wrong) spec oil.
Thomas.B
Dexron III is a different (wrong) spec oil. Ok after some research I found out that it was as I thought. The Dexron III is a newer "better" version and fully compatable with Dexron II type oils.
