I just tried 'waffle' and it was in my dictionary already. Not really sure what's going on with yours Charlotte.

Thanks for looking anyway! :) It's like it has a weird mind of it's own sometimes. Apart from that I really do like it. Have you tried any of the photo apps yet? I have vignette which I love the effect of.

Oh and Charlotte, waffle works for me too, I get Waffle, Baffle, Raffle on my predictive text! To which i've noticed holding the phone in landscape texting with predictive text covers the screen so you can't see what your writing!

Oh I do find that annoying actually - especially if you're replying to an email or something and do a few returns - it's really hard to see what you've written!

I had a little mess around with one, but it was only in order to crop a picture for MMS purposes. I'll have a look at Vignette :)

I use Go SMS Pro rather than the standard SMS app (Which is absolutely terrible). It gets rid of a lot of the annoying buggy crappy things that tend to happen with it. It's also infinitely customiseable. I have mine fully customised (font's, colours, layout, notifications, etc) which took AGES to setup, but once done it's fantastic. It may sound like overkill but it's great to have seperate notifications for an SMS/MMS being sent, an SMS/MMS failing, an SMS/MMS being Delivered and an SMS/MMS arriving......

"It's Outta here" - American Voice (baseball) - Message Sent Successfully

"Doh" - Homer Simpson - Message Sending Failed

"Woohoo" - Homer Simpson - Message Delivered

"Da Da" - My Little Girl - Message arrived

I just checked and you can read a good portion of the SMS while typing in portrait. The suggested words don't overlap the box :)

Great phone the Galaxy S2.... I wish I still had my HTC Desire. I spilt a cup of coffee in it and the insurance company couldn't get me any Android based HTC or Samsung or even a cash settlement. Ended up being lumbered with an iPhone 4 which whilst it's not a bad device by any means and has some great features, it's most definitely not on par with Android in terms of flexibility and there's lots of things with it that are just plain annoying! I'm still bewildered as to why they gave me an iPhone4 as it ended up costing them a lot more than sourcing me an HTC or Samsung.

Whilst you're on the subject of SMS... I used 'ChompSMS' on my Android device and found this much nicer than the standard utility.

  • 1 month later...

I'm actually charging my phone less now. I had it on all weekend, with the internet and bluetooth turned on, and it was still at 3/4 when I took it into work yesterday.

It's normal for a battery to need broken in but the Galaxy took weeks rather than days. It's working fantastic for me now, still not looking back though I definitely made the right choice.

Between the Sensation and the SII I don't think you could go wrong really.

It was in Europe. I'm sure I heard it on Radio 1 news last week though!

I know that's probably a little one sided but it almost sounds as if apple are just whining and clutching at straws.

Will be good to hear what happens though :)

Heres one for you guys - my contacts just will not sync with my gmail account (which is on google hosted apps). I've tried everything and it wont sync either way! The net is full of people with the same problem, but no answers.

Is the only option to download a different contact manager? Failing that is there a good app for doing a backup of your contacts?

Cheers,

Paul.

I've not read the entire thread Scott so forgive me if this has been mentioned before, but the 3g is woefully slow on the SII and its also alot more complicated to make sure its turned off, and data roaming for that matter. They need to add a couple of swipe buttons for 3g on/off and the same for the Roaming. Everything else is fantastic imo, it was a MASSIVE step up for me from my iPhone 3g and i dont regret getting it for a second. The second thing thats annoying is the predictive text, it doesnt have the same predictive algorythms as the iPhone wherein if you accidently press the wrong letter (next to the one you were supposed to press) because you have normal size fingers and not that of a pianist, then it doesnt predict what your actually meaning to type. These are the only 2 things i've found that the iPhone is superior over the S2, EVERYTHING else is much much better on the Galaxy....in fact its not even close. I actually felt bad giving my iPhone to my Gf because of how bad a phone it is, but she wanted it so she's happy.

Some good tricks i've found with the S2 are

1.) Swipe left on a contact to take you straight to texting them, swipe right to call them.

2.) Hold down the "menu" button on the left to take you straight to "Google Search Engine"

3.) Hold down the lock button to allow you to turn on/off data roaming

4.) Press menu, then edit, then drag and drop to create new folders and pages.

5.) Put you finger on the screen number (1,2,3,4 etc depending on what screen your on obviously) to quickly scroll between screens.

6.) In "Voice Talk", you can send messages, make calls even navigate to places (make sure the GPS is on though) without having to touch the screen at all. For texting etc, speak "Hi Galaxy" and it will wake up and ask what you want to do, then either say "Message Scott" or "Call Scott" or "Navigate to London" etc and it will do it for you. Its actually very good and picks up what your saying really well.

Ok, time has ticked on, i can order my phone next week.

You have all had time to drop, damage or have issues with your new gadgets.

Anyone having issues with them?

Getting bored of charging it everyday?

Anyone changed cases/protectors?

Excellent choice :D

I charge it either everyday or day and a half. I do use email and internet quite a lot...oh and sat nav app.

This doesn't bother me in the slightest though.

Ok...I'm on my 3rd case now.

The first one was an impulse buy. It was cheap but very bendy and kept coming off the phone.

This is because it preferred sticking to my trouser pocket.

The second case was also cheap but mega slimline, which is in keeping with its dimensions. After 2 months it started to break.

My 3rd choice is arriving in the post. Google Case Mate's "Barely there" model. Amazon do it for approx 13 golden coins.
