paulfurn
Currently Saying on Sky news that police have shut the ring road, stopped people getting into Brum and have evacuated the city centre. Theyve also carried out a controlled explosion on a bus, but Sky are saying the police arent linking this to the London blasts. Hope all our Birmingham based forumites are okay. TrickTT
I've just got back from my mates stag do in birmingham city centre - had to walk as they have locked our car in the car park and wont let us get it out. They shut everything pubs/shops/restaurants, and most importantly, lap dancing clubs Police were, as usual, useless. No information, no help, just get out of the city! BigRoy
I think we are going to get alot of suspect packages and controlled explosions now. Every time we get one I have to go on call until 4 each morning and its killing my body clock! So if the world ends I get to sit in a bunker near Guildford with a load of women! Result! Ian R
It just show terrorists don't care about anyone they are going the right way to turn the muslim world against them. This considering Birmingham has an ethnic population of over 30% - 20% of which are asian (excluding chinese)

Whitesupraboy2
well that was lucky i been working in selly oak hospital which is on the A38 ring road border. If i had been there just one extra day. I would of been caught up in it and if it had gone off the mahem in the A&E department i was working in dont dare thinking bout! I think we could be seeing this for a little while so it looks like we are doing something to prevent it happening again

Mate I understand your frustration, but IMO the Police were not useless, actions were taken on intelligence received and surely the inconvenience was better than what might of taken place. Appreciate more info could of helped but TBH it was a simple case of clear the area
Bobbeh
Yeah you cant have a go at the Police over this, would you have rather seen people blown to bits elsewhere. They're only acting on levels of intelligence supplied to them.

They're only acting on levels of intelligence supplied to them. I take your point about being blown up, the plods by us actually directed us toward Broad street, and a bit of info like whats happening, how long is everything going to be shut, how do we leave since you've stopped all the busses and trains would have been nice. If they were at all concerned about us being blown up, then surely they would have organised a proper evacuation to a safe location, not just told us to go away. We were at the Languard Holiday village in Sandown.
Bobbeh
They may have been getting differing info throughout the night as to where the risk, or even the how bad type of risk was. Its easy to moan at them but Im sure they didnt do it without pretty decent information. They often dismissed many IRA warnings during their terror campaign so I dont think it was simply knee-jerk.
