Havard
I can't believe it. I picked up my phone while my hands were wet and put it in my pocket. 20 seconds later I pulled it out my pocket and dried it with a towel. The phone worked for about half an hour and then gave up the ghost. I have been trying to dry it out but I am pretty certain it's a gonner. Are they really that easy to damage or have I just been unlucky. I now need to get hold of a decent phone that will handle e-mails as my phone provider wants £350 for a new BB Bold 9780. Does anyone know how I can get a decent deal on a phone that will be on 02. Cheers H.
ronttuk
take the battery out bury the phone in dry rice in a sealed container for a cpl of days the rice will draw any moisture out of the phone then it might come back to life

My girlfriend hated her Blackberry as it played up constantly, she ended up just cancelling the contract and buying another phone as it become too much trouble. Havard
Thanks for the replies peoples. I have now got an emergency phone from work and had it set up for e-mails etc. I have written to our service/phone provider and been quite honest about what happened. I have made it quite clear that I am really disappointed with the way the phone slowly fell apart with only a small amount of water near it. Lesson learned me thinks..!! We will see if they replace the phone FOC. I am not sure that I want another one though tbh. If I had immersed it or got it sprayed with water then I would have been willing to accept the consequences. I work in an enviroment with pumps and tanks and whilst on site my hands usually get wet at some point. I think that due to the heat to day, the water has evaporated into the phone and got stuck there pretty much. H.
gjp
I'm on my third Blackberry now and not had a problem with any of them. My friend is on his sixth iphone due the screen being made of glass and it brakes every time he drops it.

My friend is on his sixth iphone due the screen being made of glass and it brakes every time he drops it. I have had problems with my last two as the call connects, they can hear me but I can't hear them. Customers often tell me that they can hear me swearing at the phone. I dropped my old one loads of times and although it had some battle scars it worked most of the time. I just hope I get a replacement or I'll be a bit upset. I honestly didn't think a few drops of water would kill it. H.

ozz
Mine's been dunked in beer, thrown across bars, dropped and still going strong 2 years later I think its a 8360 without taking it apart. The beer incident, I washed the phone and stuck it in the aircon machine at hotel, a hour later all good though the wheel thing played up. The early Bolds did have a fault with the speaker connections and bad contacts between the speaker itself and the print pads that caused the recovered audio to fail, on that model, if you squeezed it between your thumb and finger around the camera it used to burst into life, but didnt last long. At work we use Pearls, Bolds, Curves and Torches. The Touches have been a little troublesome and we have discovered that the Pearls are not much good for remote connecting to servers and other remote equipment as the keyboard uses multi function keys, but the Bolds both 9000 and 9700 have been great as have the Curves. If you dont get it sorted through your provider, let me know and I may be able to help.

ALIVE..!! I have continued to use the emergency phone but after a couple of calls on my own phone it seems to be ok. I will put it back in the rice again tonight to make sure it's properly dried out. Shane, do the phones have colour sensors in them to show water damage? My temporary phone has two little sticky white pads on the battery and the phone itself. On my normal phone those sticky pads are red and I think they change colour when they get wet? Also is there any way of removing the screen and cleaning it from behind? You can see really faint water stains behind the screen like condensation. H.

I do remember once seeing an article where someone had worked out how to reverse the colour change, although that seems a bit dubious to me as I would have thought they were made from some sort of litmus paper type of thing. When I get a mo will see what I can find, have a look on the Crackberry forums, loads of stuff on there. You can remove the fronts, but probably will never get it back on and make it look nice as when you peel it off it will get distorted. Saying that, I have only ever tried it on a Curve, possibly a Bold is different in construction, but I doubt it and will have a look later. We use a shop in London called Turn On Your Mobile for all of our repairs and they seem OK and turn stuff around within a day if mail order and also provide a while you wait service which is good for us, but not much use for you! Cheers Shane. I have become kind of obsessed with how easy water damage occurs. I was at a hotel yesterday working near the swimming pool. It was 31 degrees and really humid. I was thinking how long in that environment would it take to make the sensors in the phone turn red and therefore I wouldn't have any warranty on the phone. I am going to start leaving it in the car when I am at work but I still need to make calls whilst on site. My original phone is working and I'll see today if it works fully and get my e-mail account transferred over. H.
Havard
Phone is working and back to normal. I am amazed it's recovered but still surprised how easily it broke. H.
