CJ
I need a bit of advice and information for my eldest son, Daniel. He is 24 and is currently seeing a lady here in the UK who is going to be emigrating to Oz (Brisbane) with her mother and father in September and Dan has it in his head that he wants to go out there and spend a year with them. Now, to be honest, this may all flitter out to nothing as he has to save coin first and isn't looking to go until next May but in the mean time I have told him I would ask around for advice etc. His main concern is obviously work and accommodation. His skill set isn't great as he has only worked in 2 places since leaving school. He worked part time in B&Q as a sales assistant whilst finishing off his exams (he got 8 GCSE's and 2 A level passes) and he then started work at Abbey National Bank (now Santander) where he has progressed to a financial advisor at one of their branches. So, that's a brief resume of where he is. He thinks he should be able to get a 12 month work visa but needs practical advice for flats and work etc. Can you help at all? add heywood
I had a friend who travelled Aus for a year about 7-8 years ago. They said someting about needing around 3k in their bank to show they could sustain themselves... This might be complete b******* but its what she said... Charlotte
My brother is out there at the moment CJ (he's 25). He and 5 friends went travelling in October last year - first to Thailand, then Bali, then Aus. My brother hadn't saved much as he was joining his friends last minute after they'd planned for a year. They got to Sydney just before Christmas time and all managed to find jobs pretty quickly. He has an office job but others in the group have restaurant serving work and shop assistant stuff. I think he is testament to anyone doing it on a shoestring budget. He didn't even take much stuff with him. I can pass on an email address if you think it would help? Presumably he'd be able to stay with her parents for a bit until he found something more permanent?
CJ
I can pass on an email address if you think it would help? Yes please, that would be ace. Presumably he'd be able to stay with her parents for a bit until he found something more permanent? That is his plan and so it does give hm a bit of leeway before fending for himself.
