ilicos
Hi Lads, The wife's C-max has decided to stop starting. This came about as the car was being reversed and then at a slow roll was put into first gear to head off - The car stalled and then upon turning the ignition, it refused to turn over. There is a slight popping noise when you do this but not enough power to get it to crank. I was thinking that it may be the battery as it can be jump started but all electrics seem fine?! Your help and suggestions are much appreciated. P.S. there has never been a problem with the car up to this point at all.
dan294
I know alternators can be an issue on these. Might be worth getting a volt meter on the battery with it running? Had a customer at work that had similar problems...
ilicos
Thanks, I have just tried starting by using some jump leads and it started straight away. I let it charge a bit and kept the engine on for a good 10 minutes and then switched off and tried to restart, and nothing apart from the popping sound I mentioned earlier. It's like the sound that's made when you blow a speaker. I am guessing that it's either the alternator and/or battery but can they both just 'go' all of a sudden? Literally out of nowhere!! If it was the Alternator then the battery light would come on. Probably the battery
ilicos
Cheers guys! Was the battery in the end. After a couple of the tests that I carried out per above I decided to spend the £115 on a battery and give it a go. I was just miffed as it happened totally out of nowhere, and what with the way it happened I thought it would be more serious. Thankfully all is well now
ilicos
Ok, another problem that I think may be connected has reared its head. The milometer light and stereo light are staying on even when car is locked and everything has been switched off. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
