Ian C
OK, I've heard of and experienced clutch drag before, but is it possible to have gearbox drag? And if so, can it be fixed? I was servicing my girlfriends' Ford Focus and had the front up on axle stands. After changing the oil I fire the engine up to check for weeping around the new filter and the sump plug, and to my surprise, the front wheels started to turn. I checked the gearstick, it was in neutral Put clutch in, and the wheels coasted down. Clutch up, and they started to spin again. I could stop the wheels turning by applying my foot to the tyres, so it's only a light bit of drag, but what the hell is causing it? I figure it must be the synchro friction material catching or something? How can this happen? The clutch bite point is right at the top of the pedal if that makes any difference. It's not worn out though, it's been like that for years. Very odd. Could the high bite and the drag be symptomatic of bad/low fluid or something? -Ian
SilentAgro
I know it happens on bikes, don't know of it on cars. I don't see it being to much of a problem though.. Maybe?!
Lee P
It's perfectly normal for a wheel to spin on a fwd car when the wheels are off the ground. Nothing to worry about.
