Missing something in the wheel

Attero

Recommended Posts

Forgive me if this is a stupid question but I took my wheel off today to see where this tapping sound was coming from (see if there was a stone in the brake disc or something). It was the front drivers side wheel that I took off.

When taking it off, I noticed that it was missing something that I believe the others had. Take a look at the pic.

Can anyone tell me what it is that's missing here? It can't be that important, because I've never had it!

Danke!

To be honest I don't know what they are lol.

Just had a look at the parts catalogue, they should be on the rears but the fronts are a different assembly.

Attero, are you sure you have them on 3 of the 4 hubs and not just the rears?

Ah I see. That's nice to know then! :)

So what the hell is this bloody tapping coming from the wheel then? It sounds like a stone in the tyre but it's not. And there's no stone in the disc either. Hmm.

The dust shield?

Did you check to see if you had 3 the same? Very strange if you do.

Is there still a clicking noise when you turn the hub with the wheel off?

If not then have a look at the balance weights on the wheel itself.

Depending on rim size and shape the balance weights can come in contact with the brake caliper as they rotate.

Mine do this but it doesn't bother me.
