sdistc
Hi all, thought I would see if anyone has for sale, or knows of one for sale on another forum, an Autronic CDI 500R. It looks like this: http://carterrace.com/front/components/com_virtuemart/shop_image/product/329617534ccc49aff93f9aaedaf95ef4.jpg Am willing to pay up to £350ish for a known working unit, and have cash ready to go. PM me here if you can help. Thanks, Andrew
Chris Wilson
I have a mint condition Motec CDI/8 I might sell, but it would be a lot lot dearer. Never seen the Autronic ones, are they supposed to be good?

Never seen the Autronic ones, are they supposed to be good? Yeah, MoTec CDI is much more expensive (£1k, IIRC). I *used* to think the Autronic CDI were good, until mine failed after 3 years and 15k miles! Troubleshooting & repair is Australia-based, so haven't yet discovered the cause for its failure - which may, in fact, be something simple and easily rectifiable. I mainly want this to get the car running again asap.
Wez
£1K for a motec CDI when you can get a Syvecs ECU for the same that doesn't require a separate box of tricks.

Yes, I think MoTec are using their "race pedigree" pricing structure.
Wez
AEM also sell CDI units but I have no idea how good they are but will be far less than £1K

I use them on the race bikes though, might as well have the best

Which Syvecs has inbuilt CDI? I can't think of any ecu with inbuilt CDI, the EMF from it would surely be disastrous in the same box? Heat? Need? This is why Motec use separate ignition amps, it allows a high heat generating device to live away from the main ecu, and high power switching semiconductors are still something that are more prone to failure than low current devices, so if it fails you get to change a relatively cheap, off the shelf part. I think you are thinking of the latter, not CDI, Wez? I look upon 50% of the cost of Motec stuff as paying for their great support and wonderful software that's easy to use, with a whole world of competent specialists familiar with the stuff, in depth. Bit like the difference between Mac OS, or Windows, and Linux, if you see what I mean?

Not sure it has inbuilt CDI, what I ment is the ability to control the stock setup out of the box, from memory with the Autronic you need this CDI to make it work much like with the AEM you need the DLI. I agree with your Motec comments, support goes a long way, its also why Cisco are so big in the network world, their kit is by no means the best or quickest but its everywhere as pretty much all network engineers know how to use it.
