Guest Mike C
I know this has probably been asked many times before, and I did perform a search, but couldn't find a 100% definitive answer..... My TT (1995 Import Auto) has a fully de-catted exhaust fitted, large cone filter, NGK Iridium Plugs and a Walbro 255lph fuel pump, but doesn't have an FCD fitted. Basically, all I want to know is, with the FCD fitted would I get the full (or 90% of) benefit from the aforementioned mods without having to get a standalone ECU fitted and mapped to suit? I appreciate that I'd get more power and more control from a decent ECU, but if I'm able to achieve IRO 380bhp or more from the existing mods plus an FCD then I'd be more than happy with that. Also, is a boost controller essential with that set-up or just a luxury? Cheers, Mike
Josh
Have a look at the BPU page. The FCD just allows you to run over 1bar without the fuel being cut. It all depends on what you've done and what the boost is running at at the moment. If you want to raise it to 1.2bar then you'll need a boost controller. You would also more than likely need a restrictor ring to hold the boost safely at around 1bar then a boost controller to up it to 1.2bar. Guest Mike C
I see. Makes sense. Thanks for that. I'll go for an FCD, Restrictor Ring and Boost Controller then. I don't want to go any further than that, so won't go down the road of an FMIC etc. Just want to reliably make the most of what I've got. Well as long as your SMIC is in good condition then it should be ok. If I touch the fins on mine, they crumble away so I need to change mine before I up the boost. Guest Mike C
Mine was the same, but I changed it (standard SMIC still) and a new aluminium radiator. Car had seen very little use for 18 months before I bought it, so changed lots as a precaution.
Josh
Yeah I just had to get a new radiator as my stock one split. It looks prettier now
