benedwards64
Hi everyone, Bit of a funny one here. I've just done a full service on my supra and the engine is running beautifully, not misfiring or anything. However, I seem to have a bit of a vibration as if something is out of balance. This is most noticeable between 3k-5k rpm. It occurs whether the car is stationary or moving, both in and out of gear, so nothing to do with the diff or prop-shaft. Having spoken to a couple of people we're thinking that the clutch-plates or flywheel could be out of balance - the clutch does feel like it's seen better days, but doesn't slip at all. Is there anything else I should be checking? Many thanks in advance
marc_p
My old N/A had the same problem, it was caused by the gearbox mounts being knackered, which then in turn caused the flywheel to come loose.
Kirk
which then in turn caused the flywheel to come loose. Christ that vibration must of been on par with an earthquake!
benedwards64
Thanks Marc - yes, should have said it's an NA. So, gearbox off job by the sounds of things - it's probably worth changing the clutch while I'm at it...
benedwards64
Christ that vibration must of been on par with an earthquake! It's only slight on mine, and seems to get better (although not disappear completely) when everything's nice and warm.
Kirk
Still a vibration shouldnt be enough to back out loctited bolts holding the flywheel. Id check the likes of the prop shaft donuts and centre joint as well.
marc_p
Christ that vibration must of been on par with an earthquake! No, wasn't severe at all, but it was a contributiing factors, basically, all hell broke loose on that car and I spent a huge amount getting it back on the road, including a new engine (i spent about £6-7k on maintenace on it over a period of a year) I then sold it on and the engine went(again!) on the new owner, he got that replaced and the heating system packed up. Basically, the car was jinxed.
marc_p
Actually, no, I'm wrong (so much went wrong with that car I forget which problems had which symptoms). The vibration was caused by something small that you replace with the flywheel, I can't remember what it was, but it was a small item like a release bearing for the clutch. Chris Wilson
Sounds like the spigot bearing in the back of the crank was left out or it was damaged.
Guest KRYP10NYT
Hi. Did u manage to solve the vibration problem and what exactly was wrong. I have exactly the same problem. I also feel the vibration on the gear lever when the car is in or out of gear. Hi everyone, Bit of a funny one here. Chris Wilson
If it's a late model car suspect the late type engine mounts, which are a POS and fail regularly.
Guest KRYP10NYT
Sorry I should have mentioned that it is a 94 NA SZ-R Jap Spec
