Jake
Folks who have Macs all seem to love them but I've never got on with them personally. I think it's one of things people that like to be "different" have. You know the type, Smartcar drivers, veggies, etc And you have to pay for all your software There's not much of a warez scene in the Mac world AFAIAA I'd just buy myself a decent spec new PC and spend the saved £x000 on my Supra

JamesG
Yep, I bought a mac mini a couple of weeks ago and its fantastic! I'd never used a mac before and i'm very impressed with Mac OS X. Mind you, I did set it up to dual-boot with debian linux the day after buying it I think it would make a good substitute for a Windows machine, provided you can get all the applications you need for the mac and don't play games much. http://www.compsoc.man.ac.uk/~jamesg/albums/misc2/IMG_4547.sized.jpg
Robert
well i guess most people did back when we used system 9 but now system 10+ has been introduced the warez seen as sprung into life, its not just old abandonware we get free now. id have to say that on macintosh the program widely used to download programs is 'Limewire', very simple to use and usually has all the software you will want. Jake
Is there a Mac version of eMule? Are hardware upgrade costs more realistic these days? I seem to remember folks saying that it costs a fortune when you need to update bits on a Mac?
slick
I think it's one of things people that like to be "different" have. You know the type, Smartcar drivers, veggies, etc Oh how true lol, how many times have I said similar If my Mrs read that she'd swear I'd got a split personality on here Rob if you fancy one then go for it, just bear in mind that one of the big Mac suppliers (actually built/supplied and provided support for them) I did work for used windows PC's to actually run the company... yes thats right none of the software they used would run on Macs tehehe how I giggled when they had to explain that one to us

I seem to remember folks saying that it costs a fortune when you need to update bits on a Mac? depends on what you mean by 'hardware upgrade', you cant really buy and install an upgraded processors on a mac unlike before where you could with the G3 upgrade cards, but memory has come down in price on macs. Robert
oh about as far as i know there isnt a mac version of eMule but i could be wrong to lazy to check right now though, i'll have a look tomorrow
JamesG
Don't think there's eMule, but there's some others. Haven't tried them though. Apple upgrades are a stoopid price. When I got my mac mini, upgrading from the standard 256Mb to 512Mb would be 58 quid AND the apple dealer has to do it AND they keep the old stick of memory!!! You can buy 512Mb for 25 quid, so I'm gonna do that.
Robert
yeah i agree prices from apple dealers is silly but when i need memory or something small like the iPod shuffle i got my cousin in california to send it over. If i ever buy memory over here for the mac i use my student discount on the apple store
