MrRalphMan
Over the last few weeks I seem to see more and more people driving along without seat belts. These are mostly young blokes in their Fiesta's etc, but anyone got any ideas why it's happened recently?
tbourner
I haven't noticed, I feel really odd without the seatbelt on though. Maybe the Police have given in to everyones demands and gone to deal with 'real crimes'.
SilentAgro
Let them not wear seat belts and hope they find a tree very fast
Morpheus
It's probably the next big craze since not tying their trainer laces.

Swampy442
And not indicating. Not noticed any more instances of no seat belts other than the usual cab drivers but seen lots more people on phones while driving
Rob
Young men don't need to wear seatbelts, as they are such good drivers they will never crash, so wearing a seatbelt is like admitting you don't think you are a good enough driver. Innit.
Chris Wilson
I am appallingly bad about wearing a seat belt in a road car. Always have been, probably an age thing, who knows?

Homer
You're probably right there Chris. I like much of my generation were brought up during the "clunk click" age and for everyone I know it's absolutely natural to belt up when getting into a car. I don't even think about doing it, it's as natural as checking it's in neutral and turning the key. It feels incredibly wierd driving a car without the belt on, "uncomfortable" even. I even find myself doing it when moving cars on/off the driveway!
bradleyh_15
I am appallingly bad about wearing a seat belt in a road car. Always have been, probably an age thing, who knows? Thats because when you passed you didn't have to wear a seat belt and most cars didn't have them fitted I remember not having seat belts in so many cars when I was a whipper snapper and just getting slung around in the back. I always see people with them under their arm, that's going to do them a lot of good in a crash
Chris Wilson
The truck hasn't got, nor is it required to have, a driver's side seat belt. I do feel vulnerable in that, despite it's 18 tonnes. You are right about my age, I didn't wear a belt as I was in and out of cars like a Yo-Yo kicking the bloke in front with red flag up the backside to make him run a bit quicker. Morpheus
I remember having to sit on my Grandad's lap in the front while my Dad was drink driving on holidays. When I complained about his braking distances getting shorter and shorter to the point of nearly hitting the car infront every time we stopped, he threatened to leave me in Devon! It didn't do me any harm though.

BazzaAlpine
Just seems to me that the standard of driving is getting worse and worse. People just don't give a damn anymore. I think the kids have always drove round without a seatbelt. Prob takes thier first accident to make them buck up. No-one using thier indicators is the one that really drives me nuts followed closely by on the mobile. Had a good one the other day at Milton roundabout though. Lady in a convertable mini uses the inside lane of the sliproad off the A14 to undercut a load of traffic then barges her way in front of the car in front of me making him brake sharply and blast his horn. She actually stops the car so she can do hand signals at him then carries on driving. The best bit though was the fact that a lorry was in the wrong lane further round (but indicating that he needed to carry on round). Lady winds up being blocked off from the exit by this lorry and instead of carrying on round she stops the car on the roundabout, is leaning over shouting her head off at the lorry driver. I got bits of it on video but not clear enough to pass on to the police Had to laugh though
j_jza80
I've been brought up to put one on as soon as I get In a car, much like Homer said to the point you don't even think about it. However, I know someone who was in an accident, and would have been killed IF he had been wearing one! A huge fence post came through the windscreen and impaled the drivers seat! Luckily he had been thrown to the side of it!
Chris Wilson
I usually assume anyone round here with a seat belt on is *issed, and trying not to attract the Bobbie's attention I think you need to live in the sticks to see driving at its worst, and vehicles at their most decrepit. David P
Driving standards are definitely getting worse and I reckon it's down to the police being obsessed with the easy, speeding/mobile phone/seat belt earner nicks and ignore other demeanours unless someone has been injured. This allows ***f-wits unlimited opportunities to practice poor driving. In my home town, lane discipline is akin to play-station driving where it has become so bad, that to use lanes as per Highway Code invites both over and undertaking on roundabouts and exits with ***f-wits pulling out in front of you unless you straddle all lanes like almost all others. stevie_b
I can't say I've noticed more people not wearing seat belts. It wouldn't bother me much if I did. More fool them: if they have a head-on, it's their skull that will be punching a new car exit in the windscreen. Every time I read threads like this, I think about my idea for re-testing drivers every 10 years. Airline pilots get re-tested every 6 months or so: why should an event that happened many years ago (the driving test) mean that someone is still fit to drive? Gretie22
I always put my seatbelt on as soon as I get in the car, it's just natural to do so. I have a friend who I actually have to shout at to put his seatbelt on and tell him I'm not moving until it's on, he says but I trust your driving, fair enough but do you trust everyone else on the road to!!!!
