Exhaust question............

Its not specifically a decat system but i think they will do pretty much what you ask, the only thing is they seem to only want to remove the second cat.

All i know about the NA full decat is that it makes the car very loud, louder than a TT i believe.

How do N/A's fair on the emission tests for MOTs with the 2nd CAT removed??? Al.

Yes Chris wilsons cat pipes mirror the original path taken by the cats so the cat can be easily replaced come MOT time. Two pipes = one for each cat.

Im assuming the NA has two cats like the TT, i would have thought with both out you would need to replace the second one for the test which is the easiest one to replace quickly.

Correct, my kit replaces both cats, either of which can be replaced separately. If for some bizarre reason you only want to replace one CAT witha bypass pipe, this can be achieved too. 280 for both , 160 for front cat pipe, 120 for rear cat pipe, plus postage and packing. No vat to pay. They make a surprising difference to performance, the engine responds well to the cats being removed, more than I thought it would, to be honest.

Maybe looking for a complete replacement exhaust in S/S,how much are these? Al.

All the Japanese made systems are "cat back" ones, meaning they replace the existing system from the 2 cats, or whatever has replaced them, to the back of the car. Thus, your new cat replacement pipe(s) are not made redundant by a normal exhaust upgrade. The Japs have very strict emission regulations and the exhaust makers consider the cats to be untouchable and sacrosanct. We know better :p

Hi Chris,

I sent my mate Dave your way re decat pipes for his 200SX, I think he's been in touch.

Quick question, since Ascar Exhausts are offering to make up a stainless steel catback to anyone's spec, is there anything in particular you'd recommend purely performance wise for a fully decatted normally aspirated 3 litre SZ Supe engine? Can an exhaust be too free flowing? Is 3 inch pipe too wide? Anything that might give a bit more power really?

Cheers in advance. :)

Al, get Chris to give you the old catendicectomy, the noise is awesome! I'll let you hear mine if you're unsure.

I'd say 2.5 is plenty big enough bore, 3 inch is OTT. Just make sure it will pas noise limits for track days if they might appeal. Otherwise keep it tucked up high to clear speed bumps (shouldn't they be called ANTI-speed bumps?). There is stainless and there is stainless, make sure they use a quality grade, el cheapo imported stuff does actually rust... A nice discreet tip on the end would kinda classy :p

3 nch is probably ok, just unnecessary! T304 is a US steel designation I think, it's a high chrome, high nickel content, from memory. It's OK, generally used for cutlery :sly: , but fret not, it's not a BAD choice for exhaust fabrication. It's quite cheap, easily worked, with good corrosion resistance, but in a race environment may be prone to cracking, but on a road car, with a rubber suspended system, should be fine.
