He is aways happy with huge energy levels. He is falling over 6 times a day ish really dont want to have to make him wear a helmet like some of his friends do. He is very tall for his age and often is to focused on where he is going rather than what he is doing

Just get him a go kart. Sounds like an ideal driver!

Ahhhh man i know its tough what your going through been there myself as my son was diagnosed with Autism when he was 3 and he is now 6.

He didn't talk much at all and was going to a mainstream school but since transferring to a specialist school a year ago he has came on in leaps and bounds , he is speaking more even starting to put sentances together , counting , spelling and trying things a lot more. He still gets scared in crouded situations or when there are strangers there and can lash out when he is confused or angry but there things we are working on with him now. I find it easier to keep him in a routine thats how i got him out of being up all night as he tends to like set patterns and now gets a bit upset when things change.

He has taken a lot of my passions onboard he loves cars , trains , any thing motorised really like his quad and motorbike but the things he really loves are computers wich have played a big part in helping him. He uses his Ipad with Avaz and has become very adapt at using it to help him communicate but a lot of it he is taking on board and trying to use. He has his PS3 , Wii U and PS vita to keep him happy when its fun time to and he seems to click more with them as he picks up a new piece of tech and will have it sussed even before i can lol.

With regards to relationships I don't see my friends as often as i like but im content spending time with him and seeing them at weekends. Where it has been troubling though is when ever i get into a serious relationship and have a girlfriend , they just don't seem to understand his needs and why i have to do things the way i do with him. Ive ended one relationship on the grounds that i didn't think she was right when she was around my son , I really liked the girl but she seemed to change when he was there so i called it a day as he's my number one priority.

Its a challange and hard at times but he is worth it as he has totally transformed my life :)

A very hard week indeed.

Nath finsished pre school this week, he is now at home for 9 weeks so we have been moving work around as most parents do in the summer hols! However nath woke up yesterday and refused to get out of bed when asked.

When told again to get out he tried to put weight on his left leg and fell over, this happened again and again. I carried hmim to the sofa where he sat refusing to get up. Now as he cant talk we had no idea what might have happened and took him to A&E what followed was hell. He hated being there and then came the ultra sound We had to more or less lay on him to keep him still so they could do it.

The found some fluid on his hip and suggested an MRI but to do that he would need to be put under. By this point he has lost it screaming crying ect. After talking to the docs they suggest that he has hurt muscles in his hip and that its unlikey to be broken (no shit) so he is allowed home.

I spent all yesterday carrying him, until he went to sleep at 7pm. at 11pm i carry him to put him in our bed so we can keep an eye on him. He woke up and was wide awake, so i carry him downstairs and put him on the sofa. The mrs takes the first shift till 3.30 then i do the rest.

This morning? he is showing no signs of even a limp! and we are trying to stop him running around. Needless to say its back to the docs on monday to try and find out what the hell happened.

Its so hard to work out when he cant talk. I have considered ramming my head into a wall 4 or 5 times today. Lack of sleep and stress does some weird things.

Whatever you may think of the host, listen to the guest.

All the best. ;)

And buy those books by Jenny McCarthy!

(44.40 is about Autism specifically).

The book he referred to was Rare Earths, Forbidden Cures. Basically about mineral deficiencies and their effects on health.

Thanks for trying to help dude anything is worth a try, however nathan isnt able to hold a pen much less use it to draw. I think alot of these are the labels they chuck out to kids in the US, seems everything is down to Autism, or ADHD. Most of the time its due to the diet of sugar and fat!

Nath is very low functioning, with chromosome deletion so he gets a double wammy.

On a more moaning note, its probably been one of the worst weeks yet. Trying to cope with him being off school has made me feel like a total failure as a father. I cant just take him places like a normal dad can.

As much as it pains me to admit it i think im going to have to see the docs and get something for myself, just a real deep down gut feeling of hopelessness has set in, im just pissed off with everything, angry, sad, up,down. I hate myself for feeling like it and that makes it worse.

If i allow it to continue i wont be any use to him at all.

You're not a failure as a father. I can see the thought processes that cause you to think like that (and I'd probably think like that if I were in your situation), but you're not a failure. I read your updates regularly and you do more for Nath than most dads do for their kids.

I'd happily have swapped. :)

(Don't tell my Dad though or he'll kill me, even at 73!)

Hey buddy, thought this little story might cheer you up ;)

I loved that, thanks dude. The best bit is watching the people around him that clearly love him and are happy for him.

I braved a 4 hour drive yesterday and a stop off in bluewater. Granted the Mrs was with me but he did really well pre planning was the key. Brought him a little ball to hold as we went around the shops and he sat in his buggy apart from dropping it a few times he was great.

After a week of hearing horror storys of people taking the piss out of a disabled kid at a play center, the lad in question likes to ask for the time alot. No bother after 6.30 they host a disabled night but these thanet scum bags didnt leave then took the piss out of the boy(these are grown adults with thier own kids playing there) Lucky i wasnt able to go that night or i probably would have ended up in jail for GBH.

Then I found these and it makes it a little bit better

Went out today to meet the chap and his wife that will be taking nath to school.

Its 10 miles each way so that would be 40miles a day for the wife to drive and she would have to give up work. As much as we didnt want to put him in a taxi we couldnt afford to do it any other way. Lucky he was a real nice guy and he explained how nath will be picked up after he has picked up a few other disabled kids then another pick up, then onto school. I think he will be ok after a week or so, he didnt mind sitting in the taxi/bus he even fell asleep as the guy was driving us around.

Nath has a review of his DLA award soon and that includes mobilty this time. Not sure how that will go but i dont want them supplying us with a car, we dont need it. I already feel like a scum bag scounger everytime they pay his DLA in.

Was a bit struck by number 10.

Anyway nath has now started if school. Very pleased to say he had no problems with the taxi, the mrs cried more than him. He wont start full time until Novemeber but i dont think he will have any issues with it.

He has started removing people from his space now which is funny. He has thus far taken my mum who was interfering in his watching of mickey mouse by the hand took her to the door, waited for her to open it pushed her though and shut it.

And his play worker tried to talk to him in the playground while he was climbing and sliding and he did the same thing.

Very funny and shows he is making choices about his personal space and then working out how to sort the problem out in a nice way.

I remember being too scared to ask the nursery school teacher to tie up my rubber apron so I could play in the water trough first thing every morning.

I just followed her round the room until she got fed up and did it for me when I held up the strings! :D

That's what happens when you tell your children to be seen and not heard and to only speak when they're spoken to.......
