Rear end Feels sloppy.

I recently just changed out all my rear suspension arms in a hope that it was the bushes that were to blame that was around 4000 miles ago, that never sorted it out. I have only just put a second hand rear sub-frame with good mounts on to see if it was those mounts that were at fault. But it still feels like the rear end of the car is un-attached. Granted it has got better from what it used to be like but its still not right.

The driving sensation when driving is as though i have two flat tires at the back (i have checked them dont worry:D) the tire wall is a 45 profile so its not like there is much play/roll in the side wall.

The car drives fine in a straight line, but say your doing 40mph and give the steering a slight move left to right or right to left it feels like the rear end wants to try and step out almost like your driving on ice so to speak.

It has completely destroyed all my confidence in cornering as it feels crap. Its really hard to describe and its one of these things that you have to try it yourself to understand what im trying to say.

I still think that my rear diff is to blame for some of the cornering issues, as im sure its a locked diff, which may indicate why it feels like it wants to drift in the corners. If there is any one in Preston that can help, maybe meet up so you can see the problems im having that would be great.

But other than that im Miffed as to what it could be.

I suppose the next step would be to get it geo'd to make sure the car is set up correctly, but im sick of throwing money at it now and frankly im getting a bit bored and fed up of trying to sort this problem.

I charge £150 for a full geo set up, front and rear, IF all the adjusters are free to move.

Think i may be taking you up on that then Chris. I just hope that its this that's at fault, because if this doesn't sort it out i haven't got a clue where else to start looking.

The rear adjusters will come apart easily enough but i don't think the fronts have been touched for some time.

If it's been apart, had new arms, and then another subframe without the rear geo being done I guarantee it will be a mile out. If the rear geo is out all cars will drive terribly badly, random rear steer is very hard for the human brain to compute and correct for. Even a small error in the rear geo can have dramatic handling effects.

when would yo be able to fit us in Chris?

The snag is I very rarely do geo while people wait. If something is stuck, or a problem occurs i would rather not be under pressure to throw the thing together again so they can get back home. If you can leave it with me for the day, or for as long as is convenient to you, I can sort it. You could drop it off this weekend if you want? Ring me to sort it if you want me to do it for you. Sounds like the geo is your problem.

I am old school, all alignments are referenced off the car centreline, and I use trammel bars. No computer to mislead you, no lasers, no real chance of errors once the CL is plotted.

Usefull skills to have, sadly i was brain washed with all the training i had on high tech gadgets :(

Yea sure there is no probs with leaving if for a weekend I will just have to organise a lift to follow me and to take me back.

I will have to check with the missus what were doing this weekend before i can commit to anything. I ll be back in touch later

Cheers Chris
