SkyJawa
So then people, I'm thinking of maybe going for one of the above instead of a 200SX Thoughts are the car will mainly be used for winter driving and thus a tail happy SX is perhaps not the best idea............ So I'm thinking of a 5k ST205 GT4 coz it has lovely 4WD I realise they are a bit heavy and not balls out fast but thats fine....... So what do ya reckon, should I come back to the reliable Toyota fold?
Kopite
SUPRA i'm not bein much help am i ! what's your budget?
SkyJawa
I'M NOT GETTING A BLOODY SUPRA You git! LMFAO!!! Budget is pretty much 5k TBH mate, I do have my eye on one
Kopite
hmmm 5k.... does it have to have 5 seats etc? guessin you want 4wd?
SkyJawa
Yes mate indeedy it does! I likes my 4WD I must admit, ever since my Scooby days
Kopite
get an old scooby then? my mate (Paul R who was on here) sold a UK spec Sti for about £5k, was in pretty good condition too! not sure what scoob prices are like right now though
absz
i think that the gt4 st205 is a great car but the only downside is that the suspension parts are very expensive so make sure that the front bushes have been changed if you thinking of buying one, also the front lower wishbones. as these parts are very common to wear. Stu_Fraser
Dont get a scooby, get a GT4. I used to have an ST205, was a great car with fantastic handling, was really chuckable. Like absxxxx says try and get one that has had the lower link arms and fig 8's done coz its about a grand for parts alone. Be carefull if increasing the boost, the pistons dont like much more than 1.2bar of boost. I blew my piston ringlands running 1.2bar........... So if your gonna increase boost levels make sure your fueling is spot on. Apart from that they are a fantastic car, 300bhp is easily available with exhaust, decat and boost increase and will make the car feel much more lively. After my rebuild mine made 284BHP and 260lb ft at 0.9bar and 305bhp and 285lb ft at 1.1bar. When it was like this the GT4 felt faster than my sup before i went BPU. Buy one, you will not regret it......................
Markie
Celica GT 4's are a good buy I think mate.. Plenty fast when needed also.
SkyJawa
Nice one fella's. you've almost sold me Ro dude, scoobies are great cars mate, they really are, but I'd never have another, been there and done that etc!
Willson
GT4 interior is a bit laguna tho. I was dissapointed with how it 'felt' from the drivers seat. Too high aswell. imho..... Shame because it seemed great on paper. Worth a test drive tho obviously. Test drive a teg R, they are lots of fun believe it or not. Stu_Fraser
Test drive a teg R, they are lots of fun believe it or not. Yeah, but not much scope for more power
MaveriK
Carlos Sainz is the only way to go!!
Willson
Yeah, but not much scope for more power I know what you mean. Theres is a bloke on the forum with 250 bhp. Its cost him a few grand tho. Throttle bodies and a long list of other stuff. You gotta remember that the car only weighs about 1050 kg though I think his is a lot lighter too, as its stripped quite a bit. The tegs are not about big power, you really have to drive one to appreciate how they drive.
Suprasteve
whats your reasons for downsizing from your skyline ? purely to raise money and/or lower running losts ? If your gunna get a cheaper car but then spend £££'s modding it surely keeping your Skyline would be a better option ? But yes if i had a £5k budget then a GT4 is what i'd spend mine on. Pros... sexy little car (looks very much like a small version of the sup!) power - plenty grip - plenty Less common than Scoobies Brilliant value for money Con... still high running costs (but not as much as your skyline) higher insurance compared to a 200sx Just out of interest what would you most compared a GT4 to regards to handling and performance - what about a Escort Cossie ? SkyJawa
Insurance is coming in about the same as an SX for me TBH. The reason is the Skyline is not the car to be sat purely doing 40mph everywhere in rush hour, its wasted, and drinks fuel like crazy. I never really get to go out in it at the weekend either. The traffic has also got major crap so my reason to downsize is to also be able to get a bike for commuting when the weather is ok. It will take 20 mins of my drive to and from work. I wouldn't start spending ££££ on modding the GT4, prob just a set of springs, some skirts and a boost controller (already have an SBC-ID), otherwise it would remain fairly stock. Should also mean I have a bit of cash left over to pay my CC as well. And as you say, running costs are less too........
paulrenn
GT-Four = I had the previous model ST185 for 6 years. Great cars. Mine was modded to over 420 horses I'm now also looking for a good ST205 for winter (must be LHD tho, so if you know of one, let me know ) Much better interior than Subaru, driving position much better also (IMO), and built to last Edited to add: look on http://www.gt4oc.org, their forum has a for sale section. AJI
Not much scope for more power on a GT4 ? ...... I don't think so... any turbo'd car has massive scope for more power. I have a ST185 alongside my Supra. They are good little cars. A couple of my mates have the ST205 and they are nice handling cars with plenty of power for winter driving. The usual (relativly cheap) BPU mods gets them upto 300bhp easily. I've taken my ST185 on numerous trackdays and it is a right laugh. The rear seats however are a bit like the Supra in terms of practicality... only very small people will fit comfortably.
letmeshowyou
i think the scope for more power was related to the integra??
