Even with my missus who learnt to drive at 31, when we came to insure her it was still £600+ for a group 10 car. Would've thought at her age it'd have been less. I dread to think what it's going to cost to get my children motoring, if in fact the motorcar is not a luxury item by then!

Soopra
have you seen this? http://www.co-operativeinsurance.co.uk/servlet/Satellite/1228203835143,CFSweb/Page/Insurance-Car also stick to cars below 1.3 i have had similar problems trying to sort a car out for my 17 year old son. he has a 1988 1.0 Micra Collette which is too old for the Co-op plan unfortunately. At the moment the car is insured in my hubby's name - we will insure it in Sam's name when he passes his test

benedwards64
My first car was a 1.0l Citroen AX, and it was pretty spot on for what I needed. They're less popular than 106s and Saxos so insurance should be more friendly. Bit out of left field perhaps, but why not go for a classic? Pre-'72 Mini, Morris Minor, Beetle, MG Midget etc - they'll be tax exempt and insurance should be pretty low, especially if you can get a classic policy. A few people at my college had old Beetles and Mrrris Minors, and their insurance was a lot less than anyone else's.
k9l3
My daughter is now taking her driving lessons ,so i am looking at getting her a little car later. If anybody has been in this position rescently what cars did they end up getting that was reasonable to insure.Just tried a nissan micra for her and that came back at around the £2.5k mark.Really need to find something no more than £1000 insurance. looking at 2002 maybe corsa 1 litre which are chain instead of belt. my sister got 1 they ok and nicer looking then the later shape
