My daughter is now taking her driving lessons ,so i am looking at getting her a little car later. If anybody has been in this position rescently what cars did they end up getting that was reasonable to insure.Just tried a nissan micra for her and that came back at around the £2.5k mark.Really need to find something no more than £1000 insurance.

ford KA's are pretty cheap to insure and girly!

suprisingly cars like corsas, saxo, pugeots are expensive for young drivers, due to alot of people crashing them. Try a car that aint popular?, or even put you down as a named driver , bring it down a bundle +

shes gets her NCB =]

In my experience a Ford Ka is a lot to insure for young girls as in the insurers' words "Girls aged between 17 and 25 have a lot of crashes in KAs so it's a high risk car to insure".

Get her something no other young people tend to drive.

Wouldn't bother with a Ka, they fall apart, rust badly and don't cope with bumps well.

forget 106 that was silly quotes even for the bottom of the range one.

I checked prices on the Clio I used to own and at the moment it'd cost me £600 to insure (22, no NCB as they're on the Supra) but I'm only paying £360 on the P reg Fiesta (1.3) I just bought.

£50

Its a damn joke online as they dont seem to list all models cant even find a ford under 1.3 on there.Im on go compare at the moment.

Never had a decent quote from that mob, when my renewal was up i was getting quotes of over 1k for the Supra even though i have been driving since'96 and have over 10 years no claims!

Try a few sites, i find Admiral are cheap they insured the Supra for £290 with the wife on the policy as well.

I started with a Peugeot 106 1.1...adequate car for a first car :)

Anything above a 1.1 these days, the insurances seem to rip people off :(

suzuki swift or as already said a non turbo starlet. I think early shape Rav 4,1995-00,3 door are ment to be cheap to insure even though they are a 2000cc, group 6 i think. snow will never be an issue either, I have one as a runabout.

:yeahthat:

I started off in one of these and had it for 4 years then sold it onto a friend and its still going strong at 170000 miles.

170k? that's only bedded in then. Our 53' plate golf has 174k on it already :)

If buying a 1998-2003 era VW be careful if it's 5-door, the locks are pants and my god was it a fun job to remove and replace a dead-bolted rear door lock mech!
