Nurburgring!

Ahh I'm all excited again, of to Nur for the first time in a RWD car (the Supra) and can't wait to see how it does on the track - I just had to express my excitement! :D

I've been loads before in little FWD rockets, but am really looking forward to seeing how the Supra performs, just hope the weather holds up!

Is anyone else going this weekend?

All good thanks! Only just got home though so am straight off to bed to catch up from the exhaustion!

Left on Thursday and was staying in a hotel in Ulmen called Buergerstube (which I THOROUGHLY recommend... Best hotel and hospitality I've ever witnessed in a hotel!), was on the journey out there and my mate's full track built S13 died 60 miles from Nur, so we carried on after seeing it towed away. Arrived in Ulmen at midnight where the hotel manager kept the bar open for us until 2am for some well earned weisse beers.

The next day we we tried the track but it was closed for Renault world series drivers to practise on, so we checked out the new complex. The new owner of the ring apparently blew £10figures on this place (and it shows) but it was totally dead! You can see why it's going downhill...

Saturday we went and got some laps in, and as it was the first time I had driven a RWD car around there, I was taking it easy, but the Supra WAY out-performed my testosterone :) It handled perfectly, not one twitch, and was just utter fun to drive at speed into corners. After a bit more practise on UK tracks with more runoff, I think I'll be much much quicker though. But hey, it's not all about speed and track times, it's about enjoying the track/drive too! ;) In the evening, watched live music at the little town's festival which was excellent, but drunk Germans in the toilet scare me! Hah One dude flashed me at the urinal! Very odd...

Sunday was pretty much the same, however my other friend snapped an inner driveshaft on his Prelude coming out of Karussel, and managed to get that back to the hotel, only to be towed away on his European recovery too...

Monday, nice drive home with my two mates and all their tools/baggage with them! Speaks volumes for the Supra's reliability, as it was the only one to make it back alive ;) And whoever said the Supra boot is tiny lied... I fitted an obscene amount of stuff in there!

All in all, an excellent weekend, learnt a lot about the Supra, and am thoroughly impressed. I think I'll be sticking around in the Supra family for a long time ;)

Nice write up.

I've said it many times, there aren't many cars you can get for the money that can give the performance and reliability that the Supra can. Like you say, its not all about top speeds and lap times, its mainly about the fun factor and the challenge that such a car can provide.

Not one twitch?? ..... next time you go, take it out on a wet track if you get the chance....the back end will never be in line with the front for the full lap! :) :)

(serioiusly though, only go out in the wet if you can drift. I've done three laps in the wet and thouroughly enjoyed drifting for 22km but too many stack it into the barriers - to be fair its an easy thing to do on that track as there is plenty of rubber all over the track, not only on the racing line)

Cheers for the replies :)

AJI, I've seen a few of my car dotted around on those sites :) That's my mate that came with a separate group of friends in the other red supra, he's Paul T and races that one in the TSS! I am not too confident yet on when I'm sideways, but have some friends in the drifting arena (the driftworks guys) and plan to get some separate time on a track spent sideways before I even try it on the ring ;) Good advice though so thanks for that!

I'll chuck up some more pics as I find them :)

Here are some others of the town festival, hotel and other nice cars from the trip :)

I wondered if you'd gone with Paul, as he'd mentioned a Silvia and Prelude not lasting the journey as well.

Looks like fun, I'm going out there on Thursday for the 24h race - can't wait. :D

Yeh that was us :) He convoyed up with my other mates and stayed in Koblenz I think?

The 24hr race should be sweet! Enjoy dude! :)
