Toyota/TRD OEM Bilstens questions

A quick question for you techies out there. Can anyone elaborate on the differences between these shocks?

- Black - Standard Toyota

- Yellow - Toyota OEM Bilstens

- Grey - TRD OEM Bilstens

I think the colour coding is correct :music:

Just trying to decide which would best for my Supe, which are adjustable and how much they will lower the car. I seem to remember a thread earlier where CW advised not to lower the car more than 20mm from stock.

Hi Dave, the yellow Bilstiens are not adjustable and are pretty hard; they are about £150 each from Toyota. I think there are different spec black ones as I think the stock J spec is harder than the stock UK spec and aeros may be different, but not sure....

The shocks won't lower the car - that is down to the springs. When you are looking at suspension you need to think of it as a whole complex machine that must be matched and balanced to work properly. There are shocks, springs, bushes, anti-roll bars etc etc. Some configurations work well, others won't.

I have the yellow ones too and my car makes a lot of knocking/dull rattling on all four corners over bumpy or rough road surfaces - it doesn't help that I live down a bridle path full of potholes (so getting home can be a teeth-gritting experience AND I therefore dare not lower my car or get a lower bodykit).

have tried the US suspension on a US supra.. soft how they like it, but now I got my own J-spec, and its harder than UK/US, but nice (makes the girlies b**bs wobble) ;)

Tried an MR2 with Eibachs... nice ride, but hardens up in the twisty stuff... clever dual rate springs!
