Lurch
Hello, went for a quick trip to Tesco's today, all was fine until. On the way home I pressed the loud pedal and it seemed like when the 2nd Turbo should of kicked in it started to miss and be down on power, that was in 3rd gear. I tried it again in 2nd Gear and it seemed fine. Tried in 3rd again and it missed again. When it first did it, it felt like the 2nd turbo didnt come in, but after the second time I realised it was missing because the engine note changed and sounded juddery (if that makes sense? lol). Am I right in thinking its a coilpack gone? it wouldn't be a spark plug if its not always missing right? Thanks in advance
Swampy442
Check your coil pack clips first off mate
bradleyh_15
Check your coil pack clips first off mate Agreed only a couple of quid where a new coil pack is a fair old whack! Or try following the coil pack connector refurb thread in technical!
Lurch
Ah Brilliant. Didn't realise that was a common fault. I will check them all tomorrow and see how I get on. Thanks alot for the help guys!
Swampy442
Its very common, they get brittle with age and basically fall apart so you dont get a good contact on the coils. Generally the first port of call with missfires
Lurch
Changed the spark plugs, Refurbed the metal coilpack clips and the plastic part of the coilpack was changed a few years ago. But still its missing on high boost. Must be a coilpack surely? Or is there something else it can be?
Paul Whiffin
If the spark plugs and coil pack clips are ok, next step is the coil packs themselves. Getting more and more of them failing at the cars are getting older now. We normally fit Supersparks but I also keep genuine Toyota as well. Both in stock if needed. Check the 2 small wires going into coil pack clips as I had the same prob and it turned out to be 2 of those on cylinders 2 and 6 were burnt out due to the bend thats put on them (black scorch/overheating colour)

You changed to coil pack clips in 2008, so wasn't going to be them. I will get some supersparks once I get some money. I could probably make most of the money back by selling the good originals to pay for the supersparks anyway. Check the 2 small wires going into coil pack clips as I had the same prob and it turned out to be 2 of those on cylinders 2 and 6 were burnt out due to the bend thats put on them (black scorch/overheating colour) Yeah, I refurbed all of them yesterday as I thought it could be them. Unfortunatly it didnt make any difference.
Nic
What plugs are you using? It'll misfire at higher boost levels if using the wrong heat range plugs.
Lurch
I had NGK Iridium - BKR7EIX before I changed them. They were fine for 4000ish miles. I changed them to NGK Iridium - BKR8EIX after the problem started.
Lurch
Sorted, bought a second hand coilpack for 30quid and changed it one by one until I found the dead one. Took 4 trips up the fast road and about 20quid in juice, but over the moon. Just gotta sort out the dodgey alternator plug then I'm all done and perfect! Very happy. Thanks for all the advice
