Door Lock Problems

Hey all,

it has been a while since this problem occured. I got used to it, but now im just annoyed. Needs to get fixed!

Current situation:

My 93 Jspec Supra got an aftermarket Flashpoint alarm system which was already installed when i bought the car. Everything worked fine.

Last winter things started to get wrong.

My alarm set of in the night without any reason. Dont know why. This happened in the following nights. Well, i "solved" the problem by disengaging the alarm speaker. But the lights kept blinking like hell. (Alarm was triggered).

Second thing was, that i couldn´t open the door locks with my key. Boot, passenger side, driver side - couldnt get the key in the lock.

So i had to use the remote everytime i want to open/close my car. Annoying...

Suprisingly my ignition lock worked fine with the key.

Now i´m really annoyed and i need this fixed. Before i dismantle everything i just want to make shure i got everything right:

- I need to open the key lock cylinders and clean them (so i can use my normal key).

- This will possibly fix my "random alarm ringing"?!

- Do i need new cylinders? Or will it be enough to clean them?

Just dont want to dismantle the whole lock system just to find out that everything needs to be replaced

Just spray something like WD40 into the locks and work the key in and out a time or two. Then spray a little more in and leave it for 30 minutes. There's a good chance that your key will work fine then without dismantling the lock.

It is very unlikely that the key not working in the door lock has anything to do with the alarm going off. It sounds like you need an alarm specialist or an auto electrician - or just someone competent with car electrics.

100% shure :)

The door locks were working fine. They just stopped working after the last winter. Can´t get the key completely in the cylinder, seems like something is stuck in there :(

I don´t want to use WD40 cause it can make things just worse. Think the best is to just dismantle the whole cylinder and clean it completely.

I fixed my random alarm problem. The sensivity of my ultrasonic sensors was at max. The slightest movement was triggering the alarm. I now disconnected them and it´s fine until now :)

All I can say, is that on the cars where I've tried WD40 - or GT40, which is similar - in the locks, there's never been a problem and it usually does free sticking locks. I've regularly put a little in the Supra locks to help prevent them from seizing up and it's a lot easier than taking the locks to bits - good luck! :)
