carl0s
as per this thread , can anybody tell me whether I need to order all of the following part numbers to have my nearside rear wheel bearing replaced by a proficient mechanic? : T90369-43005 Needle bearing 125.45 T90521-85002 Circlip 1.59 T90311-57001 Oil Seal 16.51 T42451-50010 Deflector, W/Brg 18.63 T90179-26006 Nut 1.95 T42428-24010 Plate, lock nut 5.69 T90252-04004 Pin, cotter 0.16 T90311-63001 Oil Seal 21.16 or is it just the bearing which is really needed? the above was work done by Toyota for someone, so they would have replaced (or certainly pretended to replace) every conceivable part. weinelm
Having disassembled a rear bearing myself it sounds about right. The oil seals and deflector get bent or damaged as you open the hub, so not really a good plan to reuse them. Circlips and nuts you can probably get away with, but then they don't make up most of the bill!
carl0s
Thanks mate. That's a bloody expensive wheel bearing!
weinelm
Yup! Hence why I have disassembled one, but never put one back together! (Not one off my car I hasten to add!).
normore1
If the wheel bearing has been bad for a while it is very likely you will need a new hub as well. Go to the MKIV.com site for a full description of what is needed and step by step process. I did mine a couple of years ago and the hub was buggered. Reused all parts except the bearing, innner and outer seals and the hub. Didn't damage the deflector so didn't need a new one.

No vibrations that I'm aware of so perhaps I have caught it early enough to prevent hub damage. Was the hub expensive?
carl0s
I wonder who it is that maintains mkiv.com. It's a terribly good and oft-referenced site which appears mostly anonymous!
