Metallic scraping on clutch engage

I've had this issue for a few months now. Initially I thought it was just the clutch worn down but I'm not sure now.

Every so often I get a metallic squeal type sound when I pull off in first, shift to second (very rarely third) or shift down to second (also rarely). It doesn't happen often but enough to irritate. I get no clutch slippage in fifth when floring so I don't think it's clutch wear but I'm not clued up enough to make an informed decision.

Can I have some suggestions on what the likely cause could be and I'll get those things checked when it's in the workshop in a few weeks...

Unless it's belt squeal from the auxiliary belt, or a slipping crank damper ring due to a damaged crank damper (search on tipex test, then my best guess is the spigot bearing in the back of the crankshaft needs changing as it's dry and squeals. To change is it a gearbox out job. I have the bearings in stock and the correct puller to get the old one out, but you are a fair way off..

Thanks Chris. I've done the tipex test (first thing I checked) and that was fine. Belts both replaced less than a year ago.

Spigot bearing could be the issue but sounds like it's a Jurgen job :)
