Unbiased advice for buying a Nissan GTR ?

There's nothing magic about the GTR, it's just a very big, very complex modern car. You don't NEED to run them on run flat tyres (in fact I wouldn't even want to, as performance is compromised by the sidewall structure). You don't have to use nitrogen. To me they have far too many unnecessary gizmos, and a very worrying amount of expensive gizmos just behind the front bumper. Very soon values will have fallen to a level where even a fairly mild front end shunt will see them written off. Used as road car they seem fine, but used seriously on track the transmissions get sniffy, they are under braked, and there's no getting away from them being so heavy and BIG. If you view one as a long term keeper I would worry about rot, ever since the R32 the Skyline range has become worse for rot, the R34 is particularly bad. Who knows how the R35 will fair? I am also biased as I think they are plug ugly.

Someone mentioned an R8. I would wait until they drop a bit more, buy an early one with low miles, and maybe have it tweaked by one of the better German tuners, if it's not fast enough as is. And paint the rear quarter panels body colour :)

I wouldn't even contemplate an Aston, unreliable with immense parts prices.

But there again I wouldn't even contemplate spending more than £2K on any road car, they do nothing for me, and expensive and fast ones are more hassle than they are worth. If I can't leave it in the pub car park over night without worrying, it's not worth having :)

Very nice and helpful comment Mr Wilson! I didn't know about the rot issue I guess that's one more to add to the list lol. The price of the R8s seems to be dropping pretty slowly compared to the rest similiar cars. I guess I might just wait it out a bit more. As an indication, a TTRS I was looking at dropped 5k in 2 months!

I agree with your comment about road cars but unfortunately for me I have limited access to trackdays :( Hence why I am looking for something nice to drive about in. Unfortunately having a nice car also brings a lot of worries... some kid stole my tyre valve cap while I was away in the weekend (I drove the family bus). I was lucky nothing else was damaged but that kind of put things into perspective. My neighbour was saying my car gets a lot of attention apparently so my missus was suggesting it would be worse if I bought the R8/GTR lol.

Maybe wait till I can afford a castle with a moat around it :p

I went out in Jurgen's GTR in the early days of its development and I fell in love with it straight away. I then dreamt about it all evening until the morning time when I had forgotten all about it.

In simple terms; when I look back, my first experience with a GTR was like my first ‘on the job’ experience with my first girlfriend. i.e. I thought I was in love but then got out and realised that there were much better looking; better willing and a lot less chunkier chicks to be had.

I think you have the same problem as my colleague, he would love to buy an NSX but can't leave it outside.

If you brought an R8/GTR it would get a lot more attention than a bland TT :p

Similar sort of position to me :). Track is pretty much finished and now I am looking for my road car. The list is extensive Ferrari, Audi r8, Aston, Porsche and of course the gtr. I honestly thought that the gtr would not be very be impressive but figured I should test drive...... Which I did a week ago. I was ready to sign the papers after that. Loved it!! Brilliant to drive, fun, easy, simple and with all the gadgets inside to play with!! I went to the Nissan dealer near tunbridge wells, very helpful. 30-35 minute test drive down all sorts of streets at entertaining speeds. Speak to Jamie....

Then last night I found this, awesome sounding gtr! SOLD!!!

And here's me thinking about 'splashing out' on some rims for my Polo. **** my life

lol :D Speak to your bank manager looks like everyone is splashing out now.

For ex : I tried to get some guys to do the decking in my garden (around 50sq m so not a small project). I thought it would be easy but I have to virtually beg a guy to come see me after phoning over 10 companies. They just refuse to do any job below £3k...

So I guess business is good all around :)
