Attero
The core plug is (IIRC) the plug that lets loose and floods your drive with coolant. Mine had gone a few months back. I got the garage to fix it, so I don't know the dimensions unfortunately.

Attero
Any chance the garage gave you paperwork with a part number on? IIRC, he phoned up Toyota and they said it's not a part they can supply. So he just made it himself. Apparently it's dead simple. That's all I know though.
Chris Wilson
The engine uses several different sizes. I stock most of them. I always change them nowadays when rebuilding an engine, they are "of that age". Toyota also still list and sell them, at an expensive price: Edited June 1, 2011 by Chris Wilson (see edit history)
Shane
The one that seems to fail often at the rear of the thermostat/water pump housing on a NA is 20mm. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Quality-HD-Cup-Core-plug-20mm-787-Cadmium-Plate-x1-/150418256279?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2305a07197 Edited June 1, 2011 by Shane Added link to ebay (see edit history)
