hadyn
I can get this stuff fairly cheap. Is it safe to use in a 2JZ-GTE and does anyone know if it effectively raises the octane of optimax? Theres no claimed raise in octane points like the millers stuff, but it does say it 'raises octane rating'
Matt T
I wouldnt touch it with my mates!
hadyn
Why? *edit* its this stuff: http://www.edirectory.co.uk/pf/pages/moreinfoa.asp?pe=CDCFFAIQ_+redex+lead+replacement+octane&cid=
Homer
The Supra was designed to run on unleaded fuel, why would you want to use it on a Supra? Besides, octane booster will only raise the RON rating by a few 0.1 points, its completely pointless as an octane enhancing product.
Matt T
Why? The same reason i wouldnt touch any fuel additive or engine cleaning additive, its terrible terrible stuff. And as said, the lead replacement additive is designed for cars which run on leaded fuel, i.e. 4 star, so would be pretty pointless on a Supra. If you want to boost the octane rating, use race fuel
hadyn
its not the lead replacement im concerned with its just the potential to raise the octane rating of the fuel Besides its got OCTANE BOOSTER in huge letters, so i presume its more of an octane booster
Clarkey
Matt is right. Waste of time these Octane Boosters. You ain't going to notice 0.1 (if that!) increase in RON. Use toulene.
Matt T
You can get specific octane booster products without the lead replacement parts, and tbh none of them will have a significant increase diluted in a tank of petrol.
hadyn
What about Methanol is that any good?? That cheesy looking Nitrox Hot Shot stuff you can get from most petrol stations is apparantly mostly methanol...
Matt T
Just fill your tank with pure methanol This is what drag/funny cars run with
Clarkey
I would take any £5.99 bottle of "Octane Booster" with a pinch of salt. I'd rather stick it in my petrol lawn mower than the Supra. Use Toulene with Optimax.
