Hello All :hi:

I have seen an ad on eBay for a 2002 E39 model BMW 530i se 116,000 miles :)

I was just wondering whether anybody has had one of these cars :search:

Are they Very expensive to run...and what's the MPG like for them (I don't tend to thrash my cars).

Den

We have them at work for sneaky stuff. they are well built, look good (imo) have a boot that you could transport the entire contents of a Tesco into. I hear the suspension can suffer so should be looked into when buying, the straight six engines are brilliant and go forever. my 328i was pretty good on fuel, around 30 mpg, it shouldn't be too far off that I would have said. If your in the market for a bigger family car i wouldn't look much further

:yeahthat:

Best all round car of all time? Id say the e39 530d is, but this isn't too far off.

In touring form, you have a car with the practicality of a small van, a chassis akin to a rwd sports/GT car and excellent refinement.

My perfect all rounder would be a 530d touring (non sport model) individual spec in Avus blue with Champagne leather. 40mpg economy (even more on a steady run) with NA Supra performance.

However, the 530i can be had for much less than a 530d, enough so that the initial saving will offset the economy deficit for quite some time, and have a nicer engine note too boot.

I think they average 23-25mpg, they are a lot heavier than the 3 series, as said though very well built.

Can I just point out that he is a copper, so when he refers to 'sneaky stuff' he is not referring to drug dealing :D

Why a non sport?

My dad has had BMWs for a long time now, he is now on an M3 but he has had 2 e39 530d's as company cars and they were fantastic, but the sport one he had looked 1000x better, handled better and had a nicer feel inside as it had the alcantara seats and a a nice chunky steering wheel.

If I was looking for a good saloon/estate I'd have a 530d sport in black or Avus blue tomorrow.

Also, the e46 330ds are brilliant aswell.
