spiderpigcity
Would I be able to use my old bullet proof kevlar/carbon weave vests as a transmission jacket on my supra? If it stops small arms and knives It must be good to stop clutch bits and bobs. What do you reckon? Looking at the trans jackets on the net they look very similar. spiderpigcity
Just how much toque are you planning to put though the clutch to warrant such a sheild? Daryl, I was reading a post from RPS the other day on the supraforum and I just thought it was safer than nothing if I have them knocking around. spiderpigcity
wont the kevlar weave burn ? strange question lol Not really a strange question just look like they claim similar specs on their jackets to ballistic stuff, and I would imagine thats where they get in from and remanufacture it into new covers. A lot of vests that are sold are ex military vests remanufactured into new covers as its cheaper to buy then surplus than manufacture the weave itself. Just thought I have a couple that I don't use anymore and they could be turn into a transmission jacket with a bit of stitching with nomex thread. Thorin
I dont know why you guys laugh at all that stuff with IED's and stuff, obviously you havent been to afgan or iraq and had your mates head blown of in front of you. still cannot see the funny side of it no matter how I look at it. I suppose its just another Tv program for you to watch from your safe house in the UK I think mainly we're just laughing at you to be fair. I see you are a genius maybe you could answer the original question Edited May 31, 2011 by spiderpigcity (see edit history)

Gaz6002
My gearbox was pretty clunky in both Supras. I seemed to get it when shifting into reverse quite a lot. I don't know the history - have you tried swapping the oil?

I don't know the history - have you tried swapping the oil? We used dexron aq3 as advised by chris wilson. he said any 2 or 3 spec would be fine. just done the auto to manual conversion. maybe we need to top it up as we drove it home it might have settled down. That might give you more of an idea if yours has a problem. I've driven 4 getrag boxed Supras, from what I can tell it seems to be a lottery. My current v161 is notchy, my old v161 was very smooth. Both v160s were notchy, one to the point it was very unpleasant to use, getting 2nd and 6th was a pain.
