Morpheus
My stock rad split along the plastic part at the top during a track day at Silverstone (in the pits, thankfully...). I've ringed it in this pic for reference: http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv291/george_1200/Randoms/Dodgyradbit.jpg Check along the rear of it just below the rad cap. If it's split, it'll be fairly obvious. Nice engine bay Did the actual plastic split on yours?

Josh
Can't see any cracks or splits anywhere at the top or the bottom. Maybe I'd be better off taking it to a garage as they'd surely be able to check and find out better than I would.
Swampy442
Looks like you have a hole/split on the back side of the rad. Whip off the fan shroud and have a lol

Morpheus
Sure, take it to the garage but don't forget your wallet. I would drain the radiator, remove it then take it to your mechanic friend who might be able to pressure test it to find the leak but it's obviously a split or insufficient gasket clamping force. There's a nitrile or rubber 'O' ring around the top, sandwiched between the plastic and metal parts and like any soft gasket, they eventually compress and flatten with age. If that's all it is, you could just use pincers to re-crimp it. During your last drive, the 'O' ring might have become unseated slightly but a definite removal job. Could be out in an hour, then you'll know. Edited May 28, 2011 by Morpheus (see edit history)

Cheers though all I'll remove the fan shroud and look for any obvious split first.

Seriously though, I would order a new rad and coolant (2x5L) and replace it while she's stripped down if you can wait for the replacement. Take other's advice on a new one, re. SRD etc. Worst case, you'll have a repairable spare if you buy a new one now. You'll almost certainly never have to do it again on the same car. Scooter
from vague memory the lower part of the fan shroud unclips so that the rest of it + the rad can be lifted out past the fan blades. I remember the day when I would never have attempted this and thought it beyond me, but getting the rad out is simple, the shroud removal is probably the hardest/most awkward bit. You then have just the two large clips on the upper and lower water hoses to remove (squeeze with pliers/molegrips and move them up the pipes) and the two top rad clamps + the small expansion tank tube next to the rad filler cap.........then with a little wiggle it will just lift straight up and out (it may be a little stuck at the bottom where the two rubber locating mounts may be stuck in over the years). johnny g
Speak to Hodge about the rad he got from eBay, it was £120 or thereabouts, and was identical, in every way, to the one that I got. Save yourself some cash. EDIT: Here's the post where he mentions it. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?196108-Hodge-s-(Shiney-bits)-Supra-Project&p=2583334&viewfull=1#post2583334 And I think Keron has some too, for £175 Edited May 28, 2011 by johnny g (see edit history)

Oh cool, thank you . I've had a look at the service manual that Nic posts up a lot and it has a step-by-step guide in there. I was wanting a runaround anyway so this is the kick up the ar$e I needed to get one. I'll probably remove the fan shroud and have a look and if I can't see anything then I'll remove it and take it to a garage. I think a new radiator would be needed anyway as the fins are knackered as it is due to its age.

Then again, clutch and brake pedal rubbers are only £4.88 with free delivery. Hey, they do a Supra fire extinguisher too but it looks like it will only put out fires in Supras, not other makes. Handy for when you jack up the back though, eh? (In-joke) Seriously though, everyone should carry one, he says.... This might sort it unless there are any Supra specific contra-indications? dude
Taking that rad out is prob one of the easiest jobs on the car, refilling with coolant however can be quite good fun!! get the front of the car in the air and you can use a plastic drinks bottle to get a 'head' of water and force air out.
