Power steering clunk help

I've been having an intermittent problem with my steering for the last couple years that I have been ignoring.

The problem: When I turn my steering all the way to the right I get 3-4 really loud clunks and some vibration in he steering wheel.

My power steering fluid is topped up and not leaking and I did about 20 full lock turns yesterday with the reservoir cap off incase there was some air in it.

I think my drive belt and tensioner need to be changed, and would this affect my steering pump and maybe is slipping? I'm assuming the steering pump works the hardest the closer you are to to hitting the turning stops.

The though I had was maybe its a bushing in the steering column.

Anyone had a similar issue or an light to shed on this? If its a problem with the steering pump itself, it would be ideal to change it when I do my belts.

Alright fella sounds like your belt is worn and slipping slightly also worth checking the condition of your power steering fluid it should be pink in colour and smell quite sweet. I reckon a new belt and some fresh fluid (if it hasn't been done recently) will more than likely take care of your troubles. Hope this is of help to you buddy.

Do a quick search on loud 'clunk' or something of a similar idea. Im pretty sure ive read a cw post saying there is a loud slip\clunk that is normal in full lock in reverse. If i recall correctly something to do with the diff.

My power steering fluid seems clean, I changed it awhile ago with dexron III ATF fluid which is redish.

I will try and see if I can jack the car up and check for some loseness or play if it ever stops raining.

It makes clunking if I am in neutral and stationary not just reverse. I've noticed the RPM drop a fair amount as it clunks and gets close to full lock.

I will be checking the sub-frame bolts soon.

I did however pull off my serpentine belt (6pk1940) to inspect it and check my belt driven accessory for bad bearings or loseness. The belt itself has a billion small little cracks in the ribs of it but none tear completely down a rib. All of the accessory pulleys spun free without any wobbles. I don't know how much they should spin freely with one flick but they seemed to do about 2 turns before stopping.

The tensioner pulley spun free as well. Is there an easy way to check the damper and spring in the tensioner?

Also is it normal to be able to spin the water pump fan while holding the water pump pulley from moving?

I'm going to have to read up on sub-frame bolt checking and the physical steering components before I stick my head under to investigate.
